Moving Forward. The Mestizo-Curtis Park Pool house design was approved by the Landmark Commission. One Commissioner pointed out to Parks & Rec that the application did not do the project justice, meaning that it was difficult to read the drawings. Yeah, we know about that

I lightened the pictures on the post “**Mestizo-Curtis Park Pool 32nd St”
Hope this is easier to see.

The POOL HOUSE 32nd St.

*** The art is not real or is the placement. This is for Landmark Preservation Commission to get an overall look to see the direction the project is going.

***We do know there will be art on the corner of 32nd & Champa

***The actual dominant color of the tile/brick is the color of Curtis Park Brick plus a lighter shade, Both custom colors.

***The wall is VERY long. To break up the wall, it is broken into sections. The recessed sections are the lighter color.

***The horizontal metal molding around the top is detailed to look like the tops of so many of our homes in CP. Our tops are wood or brick, and a few metal ones

***The windows are fake and in the shape of CP windows. they will be filled in with a different color. This also helps break up the wall

***The entrance has a raised roof and an open canopy below to make it stand out

***The roof is flat

***The sidewalk area in front of the entrance is not acceptable. Those planters are a trip hazard. There is no protection from the dangerous driving on 32nd. Continuing to work on that.

"The Aztlan Outdoor Pool in the Sunnyside neighborhood (4435 Navajo St) is closed indefinitely. Pre-season maintenance revealed a severe leak losing over 16,000 gallons a day. The city plans to fully replace the pool, but no construction timeline has been announced yet."
These people have our deepest sympathy. Their pool was closed for the exact same reason as Mestizo-Curtis Park. By the time our pool opens, it will have been closed for 5 years! AND our pool had the funding through the 2021 bond. Alzan will probably be closed longer. Their funding will be put in the next bond. When will that be??? Then they will have to deal with Parks & Rec and P&R will drag their feet before they start the process. God Bless those who use the pool. We know what's coming their way.

The Mestizo Curtis Park community Coalition is looking for help to replace the wood where you play horseshoes...
We can't rely on Parks and Recreation to do it.... We'll be waiting another four years. So if anybody can help, please let me know....we the community have to stick together!!!!
Thanks

A bit of Good News!
After many requests and a pushy member of the Coalition, we will receive a new sign for the park at the end of June. But the old, dingy, scratched, faded circular Parks and Rec sign will remain. Maybe it’s a reminder that we are second class.
