Some incredible news out of Colorado! ✨ In 2025, nearly 1,400 children and youth safely reunited with their parents.

Reunification is built on the hard work and love of parents, backed by a community of dedicated professionals and parent advocates who walk alongside them.

Shoutout to Molly Ryan KillsEnemy, an incredible example of how parent advocates and lived experts use their experience to support families navigating the system until they reunite with their kids.

Kids are the future of Colorado, and their safety depends on ALL of us. If you suspect child abuse or neglect, call the Colorado Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline 844-CO-4-KIDS (844-264-5437). Kids likely won't speak up, but you can. Trust your instincts and be their voice.

By recognizing the signs of abuse or neglect and speaking up when something feels wrong, you can help protect our children. You do not have to know for sure, and you do not have to investigate. You just need to know the child's name, their home address or school/child care address, and your concerns.

Shaking a baby can cause severe brain injuries and could be abuse. As a parent or caregiver, there are other ways you can help your baby when having tantrums. Some calming techniques include:

-Offering a pacifier
-Using white noise
-Gently swinging or rocking the baby
-Holding your baby close and breathing calmly and slowly

Taking a minute to practice deep breathing will help you lower your stress before attending to your baby.

Even though babies and toddlers can’t talk, there are many ways to tell something is not right. Here’s what to watch for:

-Unusual bruises, burns or injuries
-Leaving a newborn or toddler alone or with inappropriate caregivers/supervision
-A parent or caregiver who seems overly harsh, shakes the baby, and/or doesn’t respond to their baby’s needs

When someone calls the Colorado Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline at 844-CO-4-Kids, many wonder what happens next. 📞 Will a caseworker visit the family? 🏠 Will there be an investigation? Will children and their parents be separated? ❓
For the past 16 years, Colorado has worked to change how families are approached after reports are screened in. Through an approach called Differential Response, Colorado child welfare workforce focuses on child safety while also partnering with families and connecting them to support services. 🤝
