🚨 MAY 2026 FIRE BLOTTER 🚨

While most people were sleeping, at work, spending time with family, or enjoying the start of summer…

Your volunteers were answering the call.

From emergency responses and training drills to community events and operational readiness, the members of the Rainbow Lakes Volunteer Fire Company remained committed to serving our neighbors every day of the month.

🔥 WHEN THE TONES DROPPED

In May, our members responded to:

🚨 16 Calls for Service
⏰ 38.7 Hours on the Fireground

Including:

• 4 Fire Alarm Activations
• 2 Motor Vehicle Accidents
• 3 Mutual Aid Responses

Whether the call came at noon or 3:00 AM, our volunteers stepped up and answered.

⚙️ READY FOR THE NEXT CALL

What most people don’t see are the countless hours spent preparing before the emergency ever happens.

Throughout May, our members dedicated:

📋 12 Company Functions
⏰ 173.2 Hours of Training & Operations

Training. Equipment maintenance. Apparatus checks. Meetings. Planning.

Because when someone dials 9-1-1, preparation matters.

🇺🇸 MORE THAN EMERGENCY RESPONSE

Being a volunteer firefighter means being part of the community we serve.

During May, our members:

🇺🇸 Honored those who made the ultimate sacrifice during Memorial Day observances

🎆 Prepared for upcoming community events, including our Independence Day Fireworks Celebration

🎓 Met with and inspired future first responders at Vo-Tech’s Career Fair

We are proud to serve our community both on and off the fireground.

💪 THE BIG NUMBER

When all the calls, training, maintenance, meetings, and community events were added together, our volunteers contributed:

⏰ 211.9 HOURS

BACK TO THE COMMUNITY IN MAY ALONE.

That’s 211.9 hours given freely by men and women who chose to serve their neighbors.

No paycheck.

No expectation of recognition.

Just dedication to the community they call home.

☀️🚒 SUMMER SAFETY REMINDER 🚒☀️

As we head into the summer months, the members of the Rainbow Lakes Volunteer Fire Company would like to remind everyone to stay safe while enjoying the warm weather.

💧 Stay hydrated and take breaks in the shade.
🔥 Never leave grills, smokers, or fire pits unattended.
🍔 Keep grills at least 10 feet away from homes, decks, railings, and anything that can burn.
🌊 Keep a close eye on children around pools and lakes.
🚗 Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle.
🚒 Park responsibly. Leave enough room for emergency vehicles to pass, and never park in front of or too close to fire hydrants.
🌩️ When thunder roars, go indoors.
🏠 Make sure your house numbers are clearly visible from the street.

A few simple precautions can help ensure a safe and enjoyable summer for everyone.

Interested in serving your community? The Rainbow Lakes Volunteer Fire Company is always looking for dedicated volunteers. No experience is necessary—we provide the training.

🇺🇸 MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY RECAP 🇺🇸

On Saturday, May 23, despite rainy weather and the cancellation of the Memorial Day Parade, our community still came together at the Rainbow Lakes Volunteer Fire Company for something far more important:

Remembering the heroes who never made it home.

Alongside the Veterans of Rainbow Lakes, local officials, residents, families, and supporters, we gathered to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Their courage, sacrifice, and selflessness are the reason we are able to enjoy the freedoms we often take for granted today.

Memorial Day is not just another holiday weekend. It is a day of remembrance. A day to pause. A day to reflect on the cost of freedom.

To everyone who joined us at the firehouse despite the weather — thank you. Your support helped ensure that the memory of our fallen service members continues to live on within our community.

Following the ceremony, members opened the doors of the firehouse for our community open house and barbeque. From conversations with veterans, to kids exploring the trucks, to neighbors gathering together over food and fellowship, it was a reminder of exactly what makes communities like Rainbow Lakes so special.

Moments like these matter.

Not because they are large or elaborate — but because they bring people together to remember, honor, and support one another.

🇺🇸 We encourage everyone reading this to take a moment and remember someone who gave their life in service to this country. If you know the name of a fallen hero, feel free to share it in the comments so their memory can continue to live on.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🚨 SERVE YOUR COMMUNITY 🚨

The Rainbow Lakes Volunteer Fire Company is always looking for dedicated volunteers to join our ranks.

Whether you want to:
• Ride the trucks
• Help behind the scenes
• Support community events
• Learn new skills
• Give back to your community

— there is a place for you here.

No experience necessary. Training provided.

Half a century. Let that sink in for a moment.

🚒 50 YEARS.
🚨 COUNTLESS CALLS ANSWERED.
👨‍🚒 GENERATIONS OF FIREFIGHTERS MENTORED.

Last night, the members of the Rainbow Lakes Volunteer Fire Company proudly celebrated Firefighter Pete Deegan’s incredible 50 years of service during a special celebration held at The Mansion in Mountain Lakes. Joined by Pete’s family and friends, the evening was a chance to reflect on a lifetime dedicated to serving others and strengthening the fire company he has called home for five decades.

Pete’s impact on this department goes far beyond the calls he has answered. Over the years, he has helped mentor countless members, passing down hard-earned wisdom, experience, and knowledge to younger firefighters and helping shape the next generation of our company. The lessons, leadership, and traditions he has shared will continue to live on for years to come.

During the celebration, Pete was honored with proclamations from Mayor Pulkit Desai and Tayfun Selen representing the Morris County Board of Commissioners, recognizing his extraordinary commitment to the community and the fire service.

He was also presented with awards from the Board of Fire Commissioners, presented by Board Secretary Joe Reeber Sr., as well as Chief Jeff Pikor on behalf of the department.

People often talk about “legacy” in the fire service.
This is what legacy looks like.

50 years of commitment.
50 years of sacrifice.
50 years of showing up when the community needed him most.

Congratulations, Pete, and thank you for everything you have given to this department, this brotherhood, and the Rainbow Lakes community. ❤️🔥

🚨 NATIONAL FIREFIGHTERS DAY 🚨

At any moment—without warning—a tone drops.
A radio crackles.
And everything changes.

And somewhere nearby, firefighters—career and volunteer—are doing the exact same thing we are… stepping up and answering the call.

🔥 Today is about more than just one department—it’s about the entire fire service.

At the Rainbow Lakes Volunteer Fire Company, we take pride not only in our own members, but in the firefighters we work alongside every single day. The ones we train with, respond with, and rely on when the job gets tough.

Different patches. Different towns.
Same mission. Same mindset. Same commitment.

Whether it’s mutual aid at 3AM, standing shoulder to shoulder on the fireground, or backing each other up when it matters most—this job is built on trust, respect, and a shared sense of purpose.

👨‍🚒 To our members: Thank you for your dedication, your sacrifice, and for always answering the call.
🤝 To our brothers and sisters across the fire service: Thank you for having our backs—we’re proud to have yours.
❤️ To our community: Thank you for your continued support and trust.

This isn’t just what we do.
It’s who we stand with.
