POSITION OPENING

PART-TIME HEALTH DEPARTMENT ASSISTANT

The Township of Denville is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as Part-Time Health Department Assistant. This position is part-time at 20-25 hours per week.
Salary: Minimum of $18.00 - $20.00/hr.

General Job Duties:

1. Professionally and courteously assist customers with all public health, environmental, vital statistics and animal licensing inquiries;
2. Efficiently and accurately process birth, marriage and death certificates and take incoming marriage applications;
3. Process and record animal license applications and renewals;
4. Assist with the timely collection and processing of Open Public Records Act (OPRA) requests;
5. Process all incoming mail which may include animal license applications, vital statistic requests and other Health-related licensing applications
6. Serve as notary public for residents/patrons of the Township; and
7. Systematically maintains essential Health Department records including computer databases and serves as administrative support for the Public Health Officer, Registered Environmental Health Specialist, Public Health Nurse and Registrar of Vital Statistics.

Minimum Job Requirements:

1. Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and must be willing to attend and successfully complete NJ Registrar Certification Program;
2. Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to interact with the public and co-workers in a professional and courteous manner at all times;
3. Ideal applicants shall be self-motivating, have the ability to pay close attention to detail and follow state statutes and Township ordinances as they relate to the Health Code.
4. Successful employee must be a notary public or be able to become a notary within four (4) months of date of hire.

The Rockaway, Marcella and Denville Memorial Association invites you to attend the Memorial Day Services in Denville. In advance of the march/parade, there will be ceremonies held to honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country. The schedule of events is as follows:

8:45 A.M. - Denville American Legion Hall, 9 Legion Place, Denville

9:30 A.M. – Memorial “Salute to the Dead” Service at Main Street Fire House, 2 Indian Road, Denville

10:00 A.M. – Memorial Day March/Parade
Starts on Rt-53 and Indian Road, to Bloomfield Avenue, to Broadway, to West Main Street, to Righter Avenue to Savage Road and concludes at the Denville Cemetery.

Recreation Fires on Residential Properties
It should be noted that State has different rules principally based upon the size of your fire pit as detailed below. Following these State requirements will help to ensure the safety of you and your neighbors.
• A bonfire (defined as a fire no greater in size than 5’ by 5’) cannot be conducted within 50 feet of a combustible structure (unless in a barbeque pit or other approved container);
• A bonfire cannot be larger than 5’ by 5’ in size and all bon fires not in a barbeque pit or other approved container require a permit from the State of NJ;
• A recreational fire (defined as a fire no greater in size than 2’ by 3’) cannot be conducted within 25 feet of a combustible structure (unless in a barbeque pit of other approved container);
• In a barbeque pit or other approved container, a bonfire or recreational fire cannot be conducted within 15 feet of a combustible structure;
• Only wood and small quantities of paper may be used as fuel for a bonfire or recreational fire;
• The fire shall not be used for waste disposal purposes;
• A bonfire or recreational fire cannot burn for more than 3 consecutive hours. This duration may be extended with advance approval of the local fire official; and
• A bonfire or recreational fire must be attended at all times until the fire is fully extinguished.
Finally, when having a fire, property owners are requested to be mindful and respectful of neighboring property owners. If large quantities of smoke from the fire are billowing towards a neighboring property or structure, you should discontinue the fire. If the local Police Department or Fire Official are requested to respond and your fire is creating a nuisance, you may be asked to extinguish your fire.
