As we approach the 25th anniversary of the day that changed the world-we are honored to have been a part of the commemoration of "The Strongest" from the New York City Department of Sanitation, in their new memorial.

Located on the face of the DSNY building in New York-it is going to be a beautiful and lasting tribute to their department.

We choose who Canada honours. 🇨🇦

For generations, paramedics, emergency medical dispatchers and medical first responders have answered the call in communities across this country.

In cities and towns. On highways and farms. In the North and along our coasts. In homes, workplaces and places where there sometimes isn't even a road.

We don't usually ask for help.

We're the people who show up when help is needed. We improvise. We adapt. We find a way. We get the job done.

Today, we're asking.

The Canadian Paramedic Memorial Foundation is working to build a National Paramedic Monument in Ottawa — a permanent place to honour the people who have delivered emergency medical services to Canadians, including those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities.

Building it will take Canadians deciding that this matters.

We believe it does.

This is our country. These are our communities. These are our stories. And we choose who Canada honours.

If not now, when?

We need your help to build the National Paramedic Monument.

Every donation — large or small — moves us closer to the day when paramedics, emergency medical dispatchers, medical first responders, their families and Canadians from coast to coast to coast can stand before this monument and say:

We remember.
We honour.
We built this together.

You can donate now at the link below.

And for every donation of $50 or more, we'll send you one of our beautifully designed National Paramedic Monument challenge coins — so you can carry a piece of this campaign with you.

“You may not yet realize the magnitude of your impact, but families like ours feel it profoundly.”

Some stories don't lose their meaning with time.

The Canadian Paramedic Memorial Foundation has been looking back through stories from across Canada that speak to the impact paramedics have on patients, families and communities.

Some are recent. Others are stories we may have missed when they were first told.

We’ll be sharing some of them here because recognition doesn’t need to be limited by the news cycle — and because stories about compassion, service and humanity are worth carrying forward.

This is one of them.

In December 2025, RRC Polytech in Manitoba shared the story of Brady Zdrill, a paramedicine student who received the inaugural “Be Like Fab” Award, created in memory of Fabio Imbrogno.

Fabio died suddenly on July 26, 2023. His family remembers the paramedics who were there in his final moments not only for the care they provided, but for the extraordinary respect, warmth and dignity they showed Fabio and those who loved him.

“The paramedics on scene were our superheroes,” his wife, Natalie Imbrogno, recalled.

That experience has now become part of Fabio’s legacy.

The annual $1,000 Be Like Fab Award recognizes a student entering the second year of RRC Polytech’s Primary Care Paramedic program who demonstrates not only excellence and skill, but the kindness, compassion and humanity that defined Fabio’s life.

Its inaugural recipient, Brady Zdrill, understood the significance immediately.

“Receiving the award is nice, but knowing that people see me as having the qualities as Fabio is a reward in itself.”

But perhaps the most powerful words in this story belong to Natalie, in her message to current and future paramedics:

“You may not yet realize the magnitude of your impact, but families like ours feel it profoundly.”

And then this:

“Your role is not only as lifesavers but as protectors of the living and the grieving.”

Those words capture something that can be difficult to measure.

Paramedicine is clinical knowledge, judgment and skill. But families also remember the hand that was offered, the words that were chosen, the dignity afforded to someone they loved, and the compassion shown when their world was suddenly changing around them.

Congratulations to Brady Zdrill on becoming the inaugural recipient of the Be Like Fab Award.

And to the Imbrogno family: thank you for transforming an extraordinarily difficult moment into a legacy that will help shape future paramedics for years to come.

Félicitations à Brady Zdrill, premier récipiendaire du prix « Be Like Fab ».
