Wellness in police officers is becoming a priority. Our department is fortunate enough to have our very own Yoga For First Responders Instructors on our team. Officers Kindel and Taylor instruct classes regularly for officers in a unique version of yoga tailored to first responders. Today, they worked with our Special Operations Team during annual training to offer challenging poses in heavy equipment.

Today we wrapped up our annual Biometric Event for employees and their covered spouses! We had 110 registrations, not including walk-ins, and we’re thrilled that so many Be Well Derby participants took a step toward learning more about their health. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle and addressing concerns early is so important! These numbers are key to understanding your overall physical health and are good indicators of your risk for chronic health conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and hypertension. Participants earned 500 points for completing the screening, with the chance to earn additional points if their results are in range. Great job, everyone!

Overall health is a team effort. Because all our systems are connected, lowering your risk for heart disease and stroke also means managing whole body health. These screenings can help you spot health problems earlier and avoid more serious problems later. Schedule a check-up and talk to your doctor about your heart, kidney and metabolic health.

As we move through the holiday season, it’s a great time to pause and be mindful of our choices—especially around food. That doesn’t mean depriving yourself of the finer things in life like good food and good company, but rather enjoying them with intention and balance.
This post shares some helpful tips to do just that.

The City is currently in the middle of the Maintain Don’t Gain Challenge, which wraps up on January 12. We have 55 employees and spouses participating, so let’s show them some encouragement as they finish strong and work toward earning 250 BWD points for maintaining through the holidays!
