🏈💚 Green Helmet Award! 💚🏈

Congratulations to Mrs. Florio’s class for earning the Green Helmet Award for having the most Pack Points in the building! As part of their reward, students got to take a picture with some of the Derby High School Panthers football players AND will be receiving tickets to next week’s home football game!

So, what are Pack Points? Classes earn points for:
🐾 Showing good behavior
⏰ Having all students in class on time
📚 Having great attendance throughout the week
📝 Having 100% of students turn in Partner Practice

Way to go, Mrs. Florio’s class! We are so proud of you!

This morning, we celebrated students who go above and beyond to show KINDNESS to others!

Our Character Strong Trait of the Month for August reminds us that kindness can be found in the little things—helping a friend, including others, showing empathy, offering encouragement, or simply making someone’s day a little brighter.

We are so proud of these Husky students for the way they choose kindness and make Park Hill a better place for everyone!

Way to go, Huskies! Keep spreading that kindness! 💙🐾

Mrs. Decaire's second graders read the story "Stick and Stone" last week and discussed friendships, family and inclusion within our classroom and building. As a class we went outside and each student found a stick, then painted their own stones. We invited Mrs. Rueger in to participate as well! We then exchanged our sticks and stones to understand that STICKING by each other ROCKS!

Hello! My name is Mrs. Florio and I am a 4th grade teacher here at Park Hill. This year in my classroom we will be working on a geography project. Throughout the year we are hoping to get postcards from all over the world, and one from each of the 50 United States. I would love to have you, your family and friends participate! The postcard sender’s job is easy:
1. Select a postcard that reflects the place it’s being sent from.
2. Write a brief note to my class- something about the culture, the weather, the food, why you’ve traveled there. Make sure you sign it in a way that lets us know who you are- i.e., Joshua's mom or Johnny’s Uncle Fred.
3. Address the postcard to our class:
Mrs. Florio’s Fourth Grade Class
Park Hill Elementary
1500 E. Woodbrook
Derby, KS 67037 USA
4. Walk around smiling for the rest of the day because you made our class so happy AND you assisted in the geography lesson!
5. Postcards can come from anywhere- as close as Kansas City and as far away as Russia.
6. Postcards can come from anyone- a friend, a relative, mom or dad on a business trip- we look forward to all kinds of mail.
7. If the student takes a trip or just goes on an outing, send us a postcard from that adventure too!
Thanks so much for supporting our classroom’s vicarious global travels.
Mrs. Florio

Our kindergarten friends had another busy week full of learning, growing and getting to know one another!

We loved getting to listen to Mrs. Bennett teach us all about our school and her important job here. We spent lots of time learning how to play together, make new friends, and become a classroom family.

Of course, we also had to keep celebrating our Color Days. We learned about brown, white, black and pink before ending the week with our favorite colors/rainbow day, celebrating with a special popsicle treat!

We can’t wait to jump into our curriculum next week and continue learning all about our friends, our school and the world around us. Week two was a success. Kindergarten is off to a great start! 💕

First grade has spent this week learning about how different materials react to light. They spent time observing the difference between opaque, transparent and reflective materials, discussed what may cause those reactions, and had fun while learning.

On Friday, reading buddies from Mrs. Pignataro's 1st grade and Mrs. Palmer's 4th grade got together for their first reading adventure! 🧚‍♀️📖 Students partnered up to read fairy tales and enjoyed some quality time with their buddies.

We love watching our older students encourage and support our younger readers! 💕 There’s nothing quite like learning and growing together! 🌟

🏆 The race for Pull Tab Champion is ON! 🏆

Park Hill is competing against the other elementary schools in the district to see who can collect the most aluminum pop tabs this school year—and we need our Husky family to help us bring home the win!

Start saving those tabs from soda, soup, vegetables, pet food, and more, then send them to school with your student. Every tab counts!

Not only will your donations help us compete for the Pull Tab Champion title, but they also make a real difference. The tabs are recycled, and the money raised helps support families and children in need right here in our community.

Let’s show our Husky pride, collect those tabs, and make a difference—one tiny tab at a time!

🐾 Small tabs. BIG impact. Together, we can!
