🚨 SCAM ALERT 🚨

The Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about scam calls targeting families of incarcerated individuals.

We have received reports of callers falsely claiming to represent a Pre-Trial Diversion Program, stating that a family member who is incarcerated is eligible for the program and that payment is needed immediately to secure their participation.

We are also receiving reports of callers claiming to be with a company that provides ankle monitors, saying money must be paid before an inmate can be released.

⚠️ THESE ARE SCAMS. ⚠️

Please remember:

✅ Legitimate law enforcement agencies, courts, and correctional facilities will not call demanding immediate payment over the phone.

✅ Never provide personal, financial, banking, or payment information to unsolicited callers.

✅ Be suspicious of requests for payment through gift cards, wire transfers, prepaid cards, cryptocurrency, or cash payment apps.

✅ If a caller claims to represent an agency or program, hang up and independently verify the information using an official phone number.

✅ Scammers often create a sense of urgency and pressure victims to act quickly. Do not let anyone rush you into making a payment.

If you receive one of these calls, do not engage with the caller. Hang up and report the incident to your local law enforcement agency.

Today, we honor the life, legacy, and passing of Mr. Glen Mears Sr., a man whose name became synonymous with service, sacrifice, leadership, and unwavering dedication to the people of Beauregard Parish and the State of Louisiana.

For more than five decades, Glen Mears Sr. devoted his life to protecting others. His remarkable journey of public service began with the United States Marine Corps, where he courageously served his country during the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1977. A true American hero, Mr. Mears earned three Purple Hearts for wounds received in combat, a testament to both his bravery and his willingness to sacrifice for others.

After his honorable military service, he continued his calling to serve and protect by joining the Lake Charles Police Department from 1977 to 1980. In 1980, he began what would become a historic and lasting career with the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Recognizing the critical importance of emergency preparedness and disaster response, Mr. Mears became the Director of Emergency Preparedness for Beauregard Parish in 1987. Through his vision, leadership, and tireless work ethic, he helped shape and strengthen emergency management operations not only within Beauregard Parish, but across the State of Louisiana.

From January 1994 through November 2000, he served as Chairman of the State Shelter Task Force, helping guide statewide sheltering policies and disaster coordination efforts that protected countless Louisiana families during times of crisis. His influence and leadership left a lasting impact on emergency preparedness throughout our state.

Mr. Mears also dedicated himself to civic leadership within Beauregard Parish, serving on numerous boards and committees focused on public safety and community resilience. Even in retirement, his commitment to serving others never faded. Time and again, when his community needed him most, Glen Mears answered the call.

After retiring as Director of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness in 2008, he continued serving as a grant writer and advisor, helping secure critical resources for the parish. When called upon again in 2011, he returned as Director of Beauregard Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, faithfully leading emergency management efforts until 2020. Even afterward, he continued serving as Operations Chief, sharing his wisdom, experience, and steady leadership with future generations.

Glen Mears Sr. exemplified the very definition of selfless service. His life was marked by courage, humility, resilience, and an unshakable devotion to his community. Through hurricanes, disasters, emergencies, and times of uncertainty, he was a calm and trusted leader who worked tirelessly to protect the citizens he cared so deeply about.

While we mourn the loss of an extraordinary man, we also celebrate a life that made an immeasurable difference in the lives of so many. His legacy will forever live on through the countless people he mentored, the agencies he strengthened, the communities he protected, and the family and friends who loved him dearly.

Beauregard Parish, the State of Louisiana, and the emergency management community have lost a true servant leader. His contributions will never be forgotten.

Rest easy, Mr. Glen Mears Sr. Your watch may be over, but your legacy of service and dedication will continue to inspire generations to come.

Congratulations to the 135th Basic Class!

CALCASIEU PARISH REGIONAL LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING ACADEMY HOLDS 135TH BASIC ACADEMY GRADUATION

Lake Charles, LA –

According to Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Stitch Guillory, the Calcasieu Parish Regional Law Enforcement Training Academy completed its 135th Basic Academy by conducting graduation ceremonies today for 39 officers representing 12 agencies in the SWLA area. Thirty-eight officers completed over 500 hours of instruction in all phases of basic law enforcement. One officer completed over 100 hours of refresher courses. These law enforcement officers passed the Louisiana Peace Officer Standard Testing (POST) exam and are now certified as Basic Peace Officers.

Paul Hite, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, was selected class president of the 135th Basic Academy.

It was established in 1974 and is administered by Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Stitch Guillory.
