Investment Opportunity in Derry - Former Rite Aid Property

The former Rite Aid at 222 Y Street in Derry is available for purchase and ready for a new chapter.

Located along PA Route 217 in the Borough’s Central Commercial District, this highly visible site sits in the middle of a densely populated residential area and has served as a commercial anchor in our community for decades.

One of the most exciting opportunities for this location would be a grocery store or fresh food market, but the property could support many types of retail or service businesses.

Derry residents strongly support local businesses and would be excited to see a grocery, market, pharmacy, restaurant, or other retail concept open here.

My offices are hearing from constituents who have not received important PennDOT mail such as camera cards and driver's license or registration renewal notices. At first it seemed like isolated issues, but after seeing a pattern and learning that the Shapiro administration ended its contract with a state mail vendor that failed to send outgoing mail, we wanted to make sure you know what is going on.

This problem affected multiple state agencies, including PennDOT, and has caused delays. All unsent mail has now been sent, and delivery should take about seven to ten days.

If you were expecting something from the state and it still has not arrived, please contact my office at 724-387-9113 or 724-472-4102 so we can check the status of your documents.

You can also print a registration card online for free, and you can complete a DL-80 form at any driver's license center to receive a free camera card. We appreciate your patience, and we are here to help.

Students are or soon will be returning to class, and that means we will be seeing school buses back on our roads. Motorists, parents and children are encouraged to watch the video above to refresh their memories about how to share the road safely.

Pennsylvania law requires motorists to stop at least 10 feet away from school buses when their red lights are flashing and their stop arm is activated. This applies to motorists when they are behind or traveling alongside a school bus, as well as when meeting the bus or approaching an intersection where a bus has stopped.

Vehicles should remain stopped until the red lights have stopped flashing and the stop arm is withdrawn. Do not proceed until all the children have reached a place of safety.

If physical barriers such as grassy medians, guide rails or concrete median barriers separate oncoming traffic from the bus, motorists in the opposing lanes may proceed without stopping.

Penalties for failure to obey school bus safety laws can result in a $250 fine, five points on a driving record and a 60-day license suspension. Violators will also be assessed a $35 surcharge to be deposited into the School Bus Safety Grant Program Account. State law also permits school entities to install and operate a side stop signal arm enforcement system. These civil violations include a $300 fine but would not assess points or impact insurance ratings.

Parents are reminded to ensure their children are at the bus stop early to avoid rushing. Students should stay where the bus driver can see them while boarding or exiting the bus.

So..... I dug out this shirt from my last run for school board. I am not a fan of bringing attention to myself. I am way more comfortable "blending in". I like being the "worker bee". I also enjoy being an advocate for understanding/transparency thru these posts. However, sometimes you have to be willing to put yourself out there, I guess. So today I will be in Bradenville celebrating Derry Townships 250th Anniversary and wearing "the shirt". If you see me... absolutely introduce yourself.

It is true! I did not grow up in Derry. I have very little family in the community. I never attended Derry schools. However, my husband and I have owned a home here and paid our taxes here in Derry Twp for 30 years +/-. We have raised our sons in Derry schools. Like so many here, we have built a life. I am proud to be a part of this community! I am also proud to serve on the school board and hope to continue on for another four years. I feel honored to serve with a great group that is committed to being fiscally responsible, mindful of our rural roots and all while setting our students up for future needs and successes.

I hope all will be Derry Proud today! πŸ’™πŸ’›πŸ’™.

Happy 250th Anniversary to our Derry Twp!
