For the entire year of 2020, the average response time of our paid professional staff was just over 5 and 1/2 minutes - that is just 5 1/2 minutes from the time we are dispatched to the time we arrive at the scene of an emergency. This response time also includes mutual aid responses to our neighboring cities, which are typically longer responses.
The national gold standard for EMS response times is 8 minutes, and according to the AHA The chances of surviving Sudden Cardiac Arrest decrease by 7-10% with every minute that passes without advanced medical care.
The year prior to the daytime paid staffing program being implemented, the average response time was over 13 minutes due to no in-house staff.
This is a massive improvement in an area that truly matters to the citizens of Saylor Township, and the Township Trustees should be thanked for their foresight in approving and providing continued support for this program.
