Our intense training program is designed to keep you and the public safe. From the moment you walk into the academy until the day you hit the streets, you will be professionally trained and equipped to be successful throughout your career. We earn our reputation at the Iowa Department of Public Safety. The Iowa Department of Public Safety is under the leadership of the Commissioner of the Department, who is appointed by the Governor of the State of Iowa. DPS is made up of seven divisions: Iowa State Patrol, Administrative Services Division, Division of Criminal Investigation, Division of Intelligence & Fusion Center, Division of Narcotics Enforcement, Professional Development & Support Services, and the State Fire Marshal Division.
