It’s a great day to welcome new team member Angie Rae Duncan, who recently joined the Affiliate team as the vice president of affiliate impact. In her role, Angie provides strategic vision and direction for the Community Foundation’s Affiliate program, advancing statewide philanthropy and community building across 46 county and community affiliates. Q: How long have you lived in Greater Des Moines and what is your favorite part of the community?
A: I originally moved to Greater Des Moines 30 years ago, and aside from a few years, have lived here or in a neighboring county ever since. What I love most about this community is the balance it strikes between growth and connection. It’s a thriving metro area with new opportunities and energy, yet it remains deeply connected to the rural communities and values that make Iowa unique.

Q: What inspires you?
A: I am inspired by the people and organizations working to strengthen Iowa’s communities. Seeing Community Foundation affiliates identify community needs and create local solutions is incredibly motivating. Knowing that I can support their efforts is what drives me.

Q: What are you most looking forward to in your new role with the Community Foundation?
A: I’m most looking forward to building relationships with our affiliates and supporting the important work they’re doing across Iowa. Every community has unique needs and opportunities, and I’m excited to help strengthen and expand the impact of the work already happening at the local level.

The Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines recently supported local initiatives that help families gain access to physical and mental health resources and access to food and supportive services. Leadership Grants totaling $750,000 have been awarded to:

- Lutheran Services in Iowa (LSI) for the establishment of a legal services program that helps refugee families meet requirements to access healthcare and food assistance,
- Oakridge Neighborhood Services for an Integrated Health Pilot Program to embed behavioral health services within its housing community and
- WayPoint Resources to co-locate their existing food pantry, as well as supportive services, to an expanded standalone space.
