Your Salvation Army is monitoring the situation to provide food, water, and essential supplies to those affected. As needs change, so will our work to support our community. You can help us be there.

On July 2, 1865, William Booth led his first open-air meeting on Mile End Waste in Whitechapel, inside a tent where the canvas air was thick with the gin and beer of the very crowd he'd come to reach. He'd only planned to stay a week, and he was terrified the entire time. He'd tried reaching London's poorest residents before and felt he'd failed.

Before that first week ended, he looked out at crowds of people who never heard a preacher's voice from year to year, and an inward voice told him he didn't need to look any further than the tent he was standing in: "Here is a sphere. Why go further afield?" He unpacked his bags. He surrendered to that call. Six weeks later, he cancelled every other plan and committed himself entirely to East London.

Catherine Booth put words to exactly that conviction in her own preaching: "If the people will not come to them, they must go to the people." She argued the Church had turned Christ's command into a polite invitation when it was meant to be pursuit, seeking people out "wherever you can get at them." That's the same principle that kept her husband in a tent instead of waiting behind a pulpit for the city to arrive.

William Booth also put it another way: "All who are not on the rock are in the sea." Neither founder stayed on the rock, and Founders' Day, July 2, marks the moment that posture became a movement, one still in front of us. πŸ™

Congratulations to CSM Phone & Mrs. Khaythong LouangAmath of The Salvation Army Federal Way Corps! πŸŽ‰
For many years, they have been faithfully served behind the scenes with hearts full of love for the Lord, quietly demonstrating God's love in His name through their dedication and service. Today, we rejoice that their faithful labor has been recognized through the Holy Forever Commissioning Event.
May God continue to bless them both as they serve Him with the same passion, humility, and love. Thank them for being such a wonderful example of faithful discipleship and servant-hearted ministry.
