Founded in Des Moines in 1990, CICIL is one of six Centers for Independent Living (CILs) currently in operation within the state of Iowa. Our guiding principle at CICIL is the belief that people with disabilities should integrate fully into society, have equal opportunities and maintain control of their lives. CICIL works side-by-side with individuals - assisting each to achieve their personal goa

ls in the following counties; Boone, Dallas, Jasper, Marion, Polk, Story, and Warren. CICIL advances the independent living philosophy through the provision of the following 5 Core Services: Information and Referral, Independent Living Skills Training, Individual and Systems Advocacy, Peer Support, and Transition Services. CICIL recognizes the unique and unmet needs by offering advocacy, information and referral, employment, peer support, and transition services free of charge to each of our clients. When combined, these services meet the holistic needs of the person as well as the needs of their family rooted through independence, and supported through care. At CICIL we pride ourselves in the work we do and we look forward to new opportunities for partnerships and presentations. Join us at CICIL Connection Center on Wednesday, April 15th from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM in suite 107 of Park Fair Mall for a Lunch & Learn with American Heart Association! This wellness series is sponsored by Wellmark Iowa in collaboration with Central Iowa Center for Independent Living (CICIL).

Thanks to Wellmark’s support, CICIL will be receiving 25 self-measured blood pressure devices to help launch a screen-and-referral program. These self measured blood pressure devices will serve as an ongoing, onsite resource for the community to better understand their numbers and take advantage of this offering.

Join us Thursday, March 26 from 12 PM to 4 PM for an engaging Open House hosted by Iowa Radio Reading Information Service (IRIS) and Central Iowa Center for Independent Living, where advocacy meets community connection. This event brings together local elected officials - including council members, county supervisors, and legislators - for an inside look at the impact of our work. Guests will have the unique opportunity to hear directly from the people we serve through guided tours led by clients, offering powerful firsthand perspectives on independent living and the importance of community support.
