Y Supportive Housing is a community solution to help eliminate homelessness by providing Hope, Dignity, and Support in the form of permanent supportive housing. This Housing First Model helps people who are homeless (or who are at-risk of homelessness) move into stable and secure permanent housing supplemented by supportive services. Case management, transportation assistance, food/clothing/hygien

e pantries, rental assistance, and other services help people meet their basic needs and reach their life goals. The campus provides a place to call home for 140 men and women. The constant wait list demonstrates the need for affordable housing in the community. It is part of the YMCA of Greater Des Moines Association, whose mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. The Y began to provide housing in Des Moines in 1960. It started as an extended-stay hotel for men. Legislators stayed at the Y when the Iowa Legislature was in session and employees of Principal stayed at the Y when there were trainings downtown. As standards of hotel stays changed, the Y became a weekly rental motel for men and then an emergency shelter. In the 1990's funding was granted to the Y to create a transitional housing program for homeless adult men. Finally, after much planning, the YMCA of Greater Des Moines opened the YMCA Supportive Housing Campus on June 27, 2011. A brand-new, state of the art facility houses the new Permanent Supportive Housing programming. The Y reserves the right to regulate the content of, and where necessary delete completely, any objectionable entry that appears on its page. The Y is responsible for monitoring all postings to its page and may take appropriate action whenever necessary to protect other page visitors from inappropriate or otherwise harmful information and links. Tim, one of our newest graduates, stopped by campus this week to join us for our bonus pot pie lunch! Our graduates are always welcome back on campus to reconnect, share a meal and take part in programs with the community!

Huge shoutout to our friends at Casey's for supporting our bi-weekly salad bar at the YSHC! Because of their generosity, our 140 residents have access to a healthy, made-to-order meal as they head into the weekend. Thank you, Casey’s, for helping make our campus has fresh and delicious options!

beat the heat this week! Even with the hot weather, our residents still took time to get outside, enjoy the sunshine, and spend time together in our Des Moines community.

Our friends from First Unitarian Church of Des Moines Iowa showed up ready to celebrate for our May ! Volunteers treated residents to sweet treats, Bingo, live music and plenty of fun along the way! We are incredibly grateful for volunteers who give their time, energy and kindness to help our residents feel celebrated and connected. Help us give a huge to for making such a meaningful impact on our campus community!

We had a fantastic Community Dinner with our friends from Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church WDM ! Volunteers joined us for soft shell tacos, corn salsa, tortilla chips, fresh fruit, and Rice Krispie treats for dessert. Huge shoutout to Karla for kicking off the evening with Bingo and bringing so much fun and energy to the night!

We are so grateful every time joins us on campus and helps create such a warm sense of community for our residents.

We had a special on campus this past week! Beautiful weather, good food, and time spent together made for a wonderful afternoon. Whenever there’s an opportunity for our residents to gather, connect, and build community, we want to make sure we create the space for that to happen!
