🏃‍♂️🔥 Today, members of the Des Moines Police Department joined communities from across the region for the 2026 Law Enforcement Torch Run benefiting Special Olympics Washington!

Representing Des Moines were Police Chief Ted Boe, members of the Des Moines Police Department, officers from Normandy Park Police Department and SCORE Jail, City Attorney Tim George (along with daughter Emmy), and Kelsey Cole from our Community Enrichment Services team — all coming together to support an incredible cause. 💙

The Law Enforcement Torch Run helps raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics athletes across Washington, supporting year-round training, competitions, and opportunities for athletes of all abilities.

Thank you to everyone who participated, cheered on the runners, and supported Special Olympics Washington today. We’re proud of our team for representing Des Moines so well! 👏

🚧✨ Field House Picnic Shelter Project! ✨🚧

🏠Upgrades are starting and the roofing work at the Field House Picnic Shelter is expected to begin TOMORROW (5/27) and should take approximately three days to complete. Once the roof is finished, painters will begin their work, which is anticipated to take a little over two weeks, weather permitting. 🎨☀️

✅ Contractors have confirmed the project remains on track for completion prior to the June 19 deadline.

⚠️ For safety purposes, the picnic shelter area is planned to be cordoned off from May 26 through June 19. If work is completed ahead of schedule, the area will reopen earlier.

These updates are helping make the Field House and surrounding facilities more functional, refreshed, and inviting for everyone in our community. 💙

We can’t wait for everyone to enjoy the improvements! 🙌

⚖️ Ensures fairness, accountability, and professionalism
🔍 Reviews appeals and helps maintain public trust

Civil Service Commissioners meet once a month, on the fourth Tuesday at City Hall. 👮‍♂️💙
