Traffic Safety Concerns: Royal Acres Subdivision

As part of that ongoing commitment, motorists should expect an increased department presence and enhanced traffic enforcement in areas where safety concerns have been identified. In response to concerns raised by residents, officers have been conducting targeted enforcement in the Royal Acres neighborhood, specifically along Bonroyal Drive and Centeroyal Drive.

These proactive enforcement efforts are intended to encourage safe driving behaviors, reduce traffic violations, and help prevent crashes. Officers will focus on violations that contribute to unsafe conditions, including speeding, distracted driving, failure to obey stop signs, and other hazardous driving behaviors.

We will continue to address concerns brought to the department through targeted enforcement and community engagement. With everyone's safety in mind—especially the growing number of young families and children in our residential neighborhoods—we ask every driver to slow down, stay alert, and obey all traffic laws. A few extra seconds behind the wheel can make a lasting difference in protecting our neighbors, pedestrians, cyclists, and fellow motorists.

The Des Peres Department of Public Safety continues to receive complaints about speeding throughout our city, particularly in our residential neighborhoods.

As our community continues to grow, we are fortunate to welcome many young families to Des Peres. Every day, children are walking to a friend's house, riding bicycles, playing in their yards, or enjoying our parks and sidewalks. That's why we are asking every driver to slow down, be mindful of posted speed limits, and help us keep our neighborhoods safe.

It only takes a few extra miles per hour to significantly increase stopping distance and reduce a driver's ability to react. Those few miles per hour can make the difference between a close call and a tragedy.

Please help us by remembering to:
• Obey all posted speed limits.
• Be especially alert in residential neighborhoods, near parks, schools, and crosswalks.
• Watch carefully for children, pedestrians, cyclists, and pets that may unexpectedly enter the roadway.
• Talk with new and young drivers about the importance of eliminating distractions, such as cell phones, and staying focused on the road.

The Department maintains a list of neighborhood traffic concerns, and our officers will continue to monitor these areas and take enforcement action when appropriate.

We ask each of you to do your part by slowing down, staying alert, and driving courteously. Together, we can protect our neighbors, safeguard our children, and preserve the quality of life that makes Des Peres such a wonderful place to live.

***UPDATE Eastbound Manchester Rd***

One lane has been opened eastbound Manchester Rd at Des Peres Pointe.

Crews earlier responded to a pavement monitor that was struck by the paving crews. Our units were assisted by the St. Louis County Hazardous Material Team to investigate the specialized equipment.

The equipment has been isolated and there is no hazard.

This little kitten has been rescued from the storm drain in front of Chipotle at Des Peres Pointe. It was spending time running around down there for a few days avoiding the trap. Many concerned citizens called us the last few days. The kitten appears healthy and was very rambunctious. He/she will be picked up by St. Louis County animal control and transported to their facility located at 10521 Baur Blvd. awaiting either the owner or someone to adopt it. Based on the interest of people while we had the kitten out on the sidewalk, this one will not be waiting long to find a furever home.

Don't answer phone calls from any unknown numbers and don't give away any private information like your credit card numbers, birth date, or social security number.

Spend this time enjoying the sunshine, family, and fireworks. Don't allow scammers to take away from your summer fun. If you receive a call from someone claiming to be the County Clerk's Office, decline it and go back to enjoying your holiday!

The Des Peres Department of Public Safety would like to provide an update on the incident that occurred at West County Center on June 13, 2026. The original verbal altercation took place on the lower level of the center between two groups who appeared to be familiar with each other. During the verbal altercation, individuals from both groups displayed fi****ms and then ran from the area.

One male subject ran into the Ballas Parking Garage and randomly fired shots, damaging vehicles, and nearly striking an individual. It appears this subject believed he was being chased but that was not the case.

Officers and Detectives were able to quickly identify the subject and worked throughout the evening to monitor three different addresses between the City of St. Louis and the City of Maryland Heights for the subject. Late last evening officers located and stopped a vehicle associated with the subject, however, he was not one of the occupants.

Two other subjects involved in the altercation, who also displayed fi****ms, have been identified and officers are attempting to locate them.

Thank you to our officers, detectives, and assist agencies in responding to this incident and the follow up investigation that quickly identified the subjects involved.

As we prepare to commemorate the 250-year anniversary of our nation’s independence, the City of Des Peres encourages all residents to celebrate safely, responsibly, and with respect for our neighbors. This year’s milestone is an opportunity to come together as a community, honor our shared history, and enjoy time with family and friends.

The Department of Public Safety would like to remind everyone that the use, possession, or discharge of fireworks is strictly prohibited in both St. Louis County and the City of Des Peres. This includes all consumer grade fireworks, firecrackers, bottle rockets, and similar devices. These regulations are in place to reduce the risk of injuries, fires, and noise related disturbances that can impact children, pets, veterans, and older residents.

Residents are encouraged to enjoy professional, permitted fireworks displays hosted throughout the region, where trained pyrotechnicians and emergency personnel ensure a safe environment for all attendees.

Additional safety reminders for the holiday:

• Be mindful of increased pedestrian and vehicle traffic around parks, event venues, and residential areas.
• Secure pets indoors, as loud noises and crowds can cause stress or attempts to escape.
• Report unsafe or suspicious activity to local law enforcement immediately.
• Stay hydrated and take precautions in hot weather, especially during outdoor events.

The Des Peres Department of Public Safety frequently receives questions about the police services provided to West County Center. The department works closely with center security and is proud to outline the department’s safety measures that are in place to protect visitors, employees, and the surrounding community.

A dedicated five officer detail—consisting of one supervisor and four officers—is assigned exclusively to West County Center. At least two officers are on site every day, ensuring a consistent, visible, and community focused presence. The day-to-day staffing at West County Center is separate from our daily patrol staffing but our patrol officers often also assist at the center.

This deployment is strengthened by advanced tools and specialized units, including a Des Peres Police Department fi****ms detection K 9 unit, license plate reader system, and investigative support from the Des Peres Detective Bureau. These resources enhance the department’s ability to prevent crime, respond rapidly to incidents, and conduct follow up investigations.

The City of Des Peres continues to provide a level of service at West County Center that exceeds what is typically offered at other malls in the region. The center in itself is regional destination that attracts millions of visitors each year and centered at one of the busiest intersections in the State of Missouri, Manchester Rd and Interstate 270. This investment reflects the city’s ongoing commitment to public safety and to upholding the sense of security that residents and visitors expect.
