Monday Mine History: The Descanso Mine was located just off Old Viejas Grade not far from the center of Descanso.It had a life of about forty years.picture probably about 1930.The beginnings of mining are not well known but as early as May 4 ,1881 The San Diego Union reported That Charles Ellis( a well known local rancher)has leased his quartz mine.. want to read about more local mine history https://sdcl.bibliocommons.com/v2/record/S182C24789
