Last Friday, members of Valle Ambulance District had the opportunity to participate in two great community events — Career Day at DeSoto Middle School and Careers on Wheels at Hillsboro Primary.

Our crews enjoyed spending time with the students, talking about careers in EMS, showing them our ambulance and equipment, and answering lots of great questions about what it’s like to work in emergency medical services. It’s always a great opportunity to connect with the community and help students learn about the many different career paths available in public safety.

Thank you to DeSoto Middle School and Hillsboro Primary School for inviting us to be part of these events. We appreciate the chance to spend time with the students and share a little about what we do every day to serve the community. 🚑

IMPORTANT VOTER INFORMATION
!!LONG POST WARNING!!
!!PLEASE READ ENTIRE POST!!

This April, voters in the Valle Ambulance District will see a sales tax question on the ballot related to how ambulance services are funded.
What is being proposed?
We want to reduce your Property Taxes!
• The proposal would transition a portion of the District’s funding from personal property and real estate taxes to a local sales tax. This would spread the cost of ambulance services over the year instead of relying heavily on one lump-sum tax bill. The local sales tax would be an additional ½ of one cent ($0.005 for every dollar spent on qualifying purchases). This is NOT a Use Tax on Internet Purchases.
Why consider a sales tax?
• Helps reduce reliance on annual property and personal property taxes.
• Allows visitors and non-residents who shop in the District to help support local ambulance services.
• Provides a more stable and predictable funding source as call volume continues to increase.
• Will allow the staffing of an additional ambulance 24/7/365 and plan for future needs.
What does this mean for residents?
• For many residents, the change means paying smaller amounts throughout the year instead of one large payment at the end of the year. The impact depends on individual spending habits, and not everyone will be affected the same way. Personal property and real estate owners within our district may save money. Email us to find out about your individual situation.
What does NOT change?
• Valle Ambulance District will continue to provide high quality advanced life support and emergency and non-emergency services.
• Ambulance services will continue to be provided regardless of ability to pay.
• The District will remain locally governed and publicly accountable.
Valle Ambulance Property Taxes at a Glance?
These Levies are Assessed on every $100 of Assessed Valuation, NOT Appraised Value
• Current Maximum Voter Approved Tax Levy - $0.4595
• Maximum Levy after Hancock Amendment - $0.4045
• Levy after Current $0.005 Sales Tax Roll Back (Approved in 2016) - $0.2730
• Anticipated Levy if Proposed Sales Tax Ballot Measure is Approved - $0.1415
Facts?
• Ambulance availability will increase which will improve ambulance response times. The number of times there are no Valle Ambulances available will decrease which will reduce the number of times other Districts have to handle calls in our District.
• The sales tax will NOT be charged on Groceries, Fuel, Medications, Agricultural Products, and Utilities.
• The District has the stations, ambulances, and equipment needed for the additional crew. The revenue generated from this sales tax will cover the cost of wages and benefits for the additional staff.
• The District WILL lower property taxes for the Valle Ambulance District by 50% of the revenue generated by the sales tax. This is mandated by law and is written into ballot language. Not tricks.
• We understand ballot language may be confusing but unfortunately, the State Statutes that regulate this ballot measure require specific language that cannot be modified.
• This Sales Tax is NOT an unlimited tax increase.
