🚨 FINAL UPDATE: Deadly shootings on Detroit’s northwest side.

Thank you for your continued support today as our community dealt with the unimaginable fear of an active shooter in our city.

We can confirm that the suspect is now in custody.

We’d like to thank our community for vital tips that lead us to his arrest. We are still in the early stages of this investigation but we are confident that suspect in custody is the person responsible for the multiple deadly shootings.

Chief White’s Statement: “This did not need to happen. Once again, Detroiters are reeling after lives were senselessly taken at random from our community. We mourn their loss and pray for those fighting for their lives at this hour. There are more questions than answers, but Detroiters can sleep peacefully tonight knowing this suspect is off the streets.

This did not need to happen.
The suspect gained access to a gun and cowardly took innocent lives. Early reports tell us the gun was easily obtained by the suspect.

This did not need to happen.
I firmly believe gun violence is a national crisis that can’t be solved solely by police action.
We are incredibly thankful for the women and men of the Detroit Police Department who put their own lives on the line around the clock to keep us safe.

I’d like to also thank our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners for their continued collaboration and support.“

We will have an update tomorrow on the latest in the investigation.

🚨 UPDATE 2: The suspect is now in custody.

We’d like to thank for their tips that lead us to the arrest.

Thank you to the hard working men and women of the DPD that put themselves in harm’s way each day.

Also, a big thank you to our law enforcement partners.

Our investigation is still in the early stages and we promise to provide further information in the coming hours.

The City of Detroit Government has begun providing doses of the Jynneos vaccines to Detroiters who have been exposed to the Monkeypox virus or who suspect they have been exposed, made available through the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS).

The vaccine will be used as first doses during initial allocations from MDHHS to Detroiters in need on the following basis:
• Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) – To prevent development of the virus in individuals who have been exposed to the Monkeypox virus
• Expanded Post-Exposure Prophylaxis – Individuals with risk behaviors in geographies, settings, events or venues with known Monkeypox virus transmission in the previous 14 days.

The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends the Jynneos vaccine be administered for PEP within four days from the date of exposure to prevent the onset of illness. If Jynneos is administered up to 14 days following exposure, the vaccine may still prevent development of the illness and may also effectively reduce symptoms if disease occurs.

“The Detroit Health Department is providing doses of this vaccine to any Detroiter who may have been exposed or suspects they have been exposed in an effort to help mitigate spread of the Monkeypox virus,” said Denise Fair Razo, Chief Public Health Officer.

Further information about the Monkeypox virus, and who should get vaccinated, is available by calling the Detroit Health Department nurse hotline Monday through Friday, 9 AM – 5 PM: 313-876-4444 or send an email: [email protected]
