🌈 How to Support LGBTQIA+ Survivors of Sexual Assault 🌈
Every survivor deserves to be believed, supported, and respected. For LGBTQIA+ survivors, healing can be made more difficult by stigma, discrimination, fear of not being believed, or concerns about being outed.
Here are a few ways to support LGBTQIA+ survivors:
💙 Believe them. Listen without judgment and trust their experience.
💚 Respect their identity. Use their chosen name and pronouns, and avoid making assumptions about their gender identity, sexual orientation, or relationships.
💜 Let them lead. Healing looks different for everyone. Support their choices and respect their boundaries.
🧡 Educate yourself. Learn about the unique barriers LGBTQIA+ survivors may face when seeking support and services.
💛 Create safe spaces. Foster environments where survivors feel welcomed, affirmed, and accepted for who they are.
❤️ Connect them to resources. Inclusive, trauma-informed support services can make a meaningful difference in a survivor’s healing journey.
At Avalon Healing Center, we are committed to providing compassionate, affirming care for all survivors. During Pride Month and throughout the year, we stand with LGBTQIA+ survivors and honor their strength, resilience, and right to healing.
