🌈 How to Support LGBTQIA+ Survivors of Sexual Assault 🌈

Every survivor deserves to be believed, supported, and respected. For LGBTQIA+ survivors, healing can be made more difficult by stigma, discrimination, fear of not being believed, or concerns about being outed.

Here are a few ways to support LGBTQIA+ survivors:

💙 Believe them. Listen without judgment and trust their experience.

💚 Respect their identity. Use their chosen name and pronouns, and avoid making assumptions about their gender identity, sexual orientation, or relationships.

💜 Let them lead. Healing looks different for everyone. Support their choices and respect their boundaries.

🧡 Educate yourself. Learn about the unique barriers LGBTQIA+ survivors may face when seeking support and services.

💛 Create safe spaces. Foster environments where survivors feel welcomed, affirmed, and accepted for who they are.

❤️ Connect them to resources. Inclusive, trauma-informed support services can make a meaningful difference in a survivor’s healing journey.

At Avalon Healing Center, we are committed to providing compassionate, affirming care for all survivors. During Pride Month and throughout the year, we stand with LGBTQIA+ survivors and honor their strength, resilience, and right to healing.

🌈 This Pride Month, we celebrate the power of being unmuted. 🌈

For so many LGBTQ+ survivors, finding the courage, safety, and support to share their experiences can be a profound act of strength. At Avalon Healing Center, we believe every survivor deserves to be heard, believed, and supported exactly as they are.

Being unmuted means embracing your truth, reclaiming your voice, and knowing that your story matters. This month, and every month, we stand alongside LGBTQ+ individuals and communities, honoring their resilience, advocating for equity, and creating spaces where healing can happen without judgment.

You deserve to live authentically. You deserve support. You deserve to be heard.

Happy Pride Month from all of us at Avalon Healing Center. ❤️

“I Am Somebody” is more than a poem — it is a reflection of survival, healing, resilience, and the power of shared voices. 💜

Created during Sexual Assault Awareness Month at Avalon Healing Center, this collective poem was written by survivors and those who walk alongside them. Each line holds space for the many ways healing can look and reminds us that no one’s journey is exactly the same.

This annual tradition honors not only what survivors have carried, but what continues to be reclaimed — voice, identity, boundaries, and self.

We are honored to share “I Am Somebody” with our community and invite you to read the full piece now on the Avalon Healing Center blog. (See link in stories)

Because every survivor deserves to be seen, heard, and reminded:
I am somebody.

Family & Friends: Together We Rise – Art & Healing Night ✨🎨💛

What a beautiful evening of connection, creativity, and community. We came together to heal, express ourselves, and uplift one another through art and shared experiences.

From meaningful conversations to creative expression, the night was filled with support, inspiration, and genuine connection. Thank you to everyone who joined us, survivors who shared their voices, wisdom, art and helped make the evening so special.

We’re reminded: healing truly happens in community — and together, we rise.

Grounding techniques can help survivors reconnect to the present moment during times of anxiety, panic, overwhelm, or trauma responses.

Here are a few simple grounding techniques survivors may find helpful:

☀️Take slow, deep breaths
☀️Name 5 things you can see, 4 you can touch, 3 you can hear
☀️Hold a comforting object or blanket
☀️Listen to calming music or nature sounds
☀️Step outside for fresh air and sunlight
☀️Repeat affirmations like: “I am safe right now.”
☀️Move your body gently through stretching or walking

Healing is not linear - it’s about finding tools, support, and moments of safety along the way. Survivors deserve compassion, care, and support for their mental health journey.

If you or someone you know needs support, Avalon Healing Center is here to help.

Healing after sexual assault looks different for every survivor, but support, safety, and self-compassion can make a meaningful difference.

Here are a few ways survivors can support their mental health:

• Connecting with a trusted friend, advocate, or therapist
• Setting boundaries and honoring personal needs
• Practicing grounding techniques during moments of anxiety or overwhelm
• Prioritizing rest, nourishment, and movement that feels safe and supportive
• Journaling, creating art, or finding healthy outlets for emotions
• Joining a support group or survivor community
• Remembering that healing is not linear — and giving yourself grace along the way

You do not have to navigate healing alone. Support is available, and your feelings, experiences, and healing journey matter. 💚
