Oakwood Blue Jackets KNOWN AS THE "HOUSE OF 700's" during the 50's-60's Oakwood blue Jackets FB group is completely open to all.

It does not require permission to follow or membership to Join. Much of the Information on the Oakwood Blue Jackets page is more historical and is open to the public and many of its postings and photos are often used as a reference on internet several blog sites as it is was a known central landmark .It was started back in early 2009 by Beth Ann Fox. the intent of this groups is to gather and Preserve information and help serve the communication needs of all the Oakwood residents.

The fire station was a bright spot in the Oakwood neighborhood. I remember when they shut it down and sold the building. It seemed like just one more thing leading to the eventual abandoning of the neighborhood when services are no longer located within the city blocks from where people lived. Same as when they shut Hunter school down. It was very sad.

Dedicated to telling the stories of the faded empire of Michigan through its ruins and remote, forgotten places. With attitude, of course.

I remember MANY years ago, ( around 1956) when I was in 4th grade at Hunter School in Detroit doing a Maypole dance like in this picture in the Gym. It was pretty neat.I also learned to dance the box step and square dancing. The first boy I ever danced with was Marino Guidi. (Grin). I recall we did a lot of giggling. I really liked the square dancing and it stuck with me through the years. I still remember those dance steps to this day when the caller called them out. ( usually the gym teacher who was Mr. Pershing at the time) “Dosie doe and an Allemand left with the old right hand and Around the ring we go, now promenade your partner and take her back home. “
