Detroit Action

Detroit Action Detroit Action is a grassroots member-led, community-based organization fighting for political power, racial and economic justice for working-class Detroiters.

Detroit Action is the alignment of Detroit Action Commonwealth, Good Jobs Now and the Michigan Small Business Alliance. Relaunched with the support of the Center for Popular Democracy in 2019, Detroit Action seeks to be a union for Black and Brown Michiganders to build power and defend our communities. GJN was launched in 2011 with support from SEIU’s Fight for a Fair Economy Campaign (FFE). FFE

campaigns invested resources in 16 cities across the country to shift the narrative about income inequality in this country and to push the daily struggles of working people to the forefront of political decision-making. Detroit Action Commonwealth, an organization founded in 2008, was dedicated to building power for homeless and low-income Detroiters on the Northeast side.

Thank you to the 26 Michigan State Representatives for allowing voters to decide on getting Money out of Michigan’s politics this November! These legislators voted “NO” on changing the ballot initiative on Tuesday, August 25th in Lansing, ensuring the people will decide if this becomes law in November.

Truer words were never spoken then that still ring true today. Detroit Action is lifting up the revolutionary struggle in celebration of Black August.

And in this month-long honoring, celebration and commitment to Black Liberation, we honor the lives of George and Jonathan P. Jackson, the Black political prisoners and revolutionaries who founded Black August in August 1979 in the San Quentin State Prison and ALL of the Black freedom fighters, and political prisoners who have studied, trained, fought for our liberation & fasted since.
