This September, Detroit Month of Design takes over Fridays at The Station.

Michigan Central is joining forces with Design Core Detroit to transform The Station into a showcase of Detroit’s creative energy, bringing together film, music, performance, conversation, and design throughout the evening.

The night begins with *Introducing Metal Feet*, a short documentary chronicling the making of Rick Williams’ original vinyl album, which uses tap as percussion to blend rhythm, music, and improvisation. Following the film, Rick Williams (Metal Feet) takes the stage with a live band led by collaborator JRGottheHits, DJ BlaaqGold, and special guests.

In The Study, Jaimelyn Neher, Salam Rida, Daniel Tomczak, and Kiana Wenzell will explore how objects, sounds, and experiences shape the way we connect, followed by music from EDNA on the Bing Audio soundsystem.

Throughout the Grand Hall, discover new and in-progress work from Basalt, Design.Declassified x Jason Alexander, Elizabeth Dizik, Domino Modular, and Liisa Salonen. Outside, Salam Rida’s work extends the experience beyond The Station walls.

Come explore new ideas, meet the people shaping Detroit’s design future, and experience The Station in a new way.

Detroit’s next generation took flight at Youth Drone Demo Day.🕹️

As a part of Metro Detroit Youth Day, young people got hands-on with drone technology, explored the skills behind flight, and saw how innovation can open doors to what’s possible.

Thank you to our partners at CODE313, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Detroit, the Detroit Fire Department, Amazon Prime Air, and Firefly Drone Shows for helping us create opportunities for Detroit youth to learn, experiment, and imagine what’s next.

The future is already here. And Detroit’s young people are ready to build it.

Southwest Fest brought its energy to Fridays at The Station.

Curated by the team behind Southwest Fest, the evening brought together music, dance, visual art, and community for a celebration of the creativity and culture that make Southwest Detroit so special.

From live performances and DJs to dance, art, and moments of connection throughout the Station, the night gave Southwest Fest artists and creatives space to share their work with new audiences while bringing the spirit of the festival to Michigan Central.

Thank you to the Southwest Fest team, every artist and creative who helped bring the evening to life, and everyone who joined us.

Fridays at The Station continues to create space for Detroit’s creative communities to gather, collaborate, and make the Station their own.

Talent is Detroit’s ultimate advantage. And Michigan Central is helping build it.

Michigan Central has served more than 3,000 youth and adults since 2023—creating direct pathways from PreK-12 classrooms into high-growth careers across mobility, advanced manufacturing, and robotics.

This momentum is powered by our partnerships:

Michigan Central Boys & Girls Club: Placing youth ages 14–24 directly inside a live innovation ecosystem.

Educational Partners: Collaborating with Grand Valley State University, Wayne State, and DAPCEP to deliver hands-on skills, mentorship, and opportunity.

This week, we're proud to partner with Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Detroit for Youth Drone Demo Day as part of Metro Detroit Youth Day, continuing our commitment to helping Detroit's next generation of innovators move from sketch to scale.
