As Metro Detroit moves from extreme heat into heavy rain and thunderstorms, flooding can quickly create new health and safety risks.

Through our Resilient Eastside Initiative, ECN created the Seek Safe Shelter: Flood Health Guide to help residents understand how flooding can affect their health and what steps they can take to stay safe before, during, and after severe weather.

Temperatures are expected to climb even higher over the next two days, making it especially important to stay cool, hydrated, and aware of how extreme heat can affect your health.

Through our Seek Safe Shelter campaign, Eastside Community Network is helping residents understand how severe heat can impact the body—especially for people living with heart disease, asthma, COPD, kidney disease, diabetes, and other chronic health concerns.

Our upcoming session will focus on Roof, Gutters & Water Intrusion Prevention, with hands-on learning and practical tips residents can use to help protect and maintain their homes.

Learn how to spot signs of roof leaks and water intrusion, maintain gutters and downspouts, improve drainage around your home, and know when it’s time to contact a roofing professional. No prior experience needed—just bring yourself and your questions.

This past Saturday, we celebrated our graduating Eastside Youth Collective seniors at our annual Senior Send-Off Celebration! 🎓💚

Thanks to the generosity of our staff, families, community partners, and neighbors, each senior received dorm essentials, school supplies, and monetary gifts to help them begin college prepared and confident.

A special thank-you to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc, Mark Owens of Samaritan Center and everyone who contributed to this meaningful celebration.

We’re grateful for the community surrounding our young people and helping ease their transition into higher education. We can’t wait to see our seniors embrace this next chapter and pursue the careers of their dreams! 💚

Join us for the Eastside Back to School Rally Up on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at 4401 Conner Street. This event is an opportunity for our community to come together and help Eastside students and families prepare for the year ahead.

When young people begin the school year feeling supported by their community, they are better equipped to learn, grow, and succeed.
