Fisher Building

Fisher Building Designed by Albert Kahn, built in 1928 by the Fisher brothers as a gift to Detroit.

A National Historic Landmark home to shops, cafes, Broadway theatre, and a living commitment to Detroit's cultural legacy. Opened in 1928 and designed by architect Albert Kahn, the Fisher Building's main tower is 28 stories tall, with two 11-story wings off either side. The Art Deco building was expertly constructed from granite and marble

With its three-story central arcade, ornate frescoes with

bronze, marble, brass and golf-leaf mosaics, this beautiful building is best known for its "golden tower". Considered to be Detroit's largest art object, the Fisher Building's public corridors are lined with over 40 kinds of marble gathered from around the world and incredible hand-painted ceilings.

The engines are coming. Detroit is ready.

This city did not just build the automobile. It built the culture around it. The ambition that put a GRAND PRIX circuit through downtown Detroit is the same ambition that raised a 441 foot tower clad in 325,000 square feet of marble in fifteen months flat. The Fisher brothers were not building an office tower. They were making a statement. Detroit does that. It always has.

Race week belongs here. So does the building that proves what this city is capable of when it decides to go all in.

Come see both sides of Detroit this week. The speed on the streets and the craftsmanship that has been standing since 1928. Forty types of marble. 1,800 original bronze windows. A Grand Arcade that hits harder than any pit lane walkthrough.

Pull up. Step inside. Detroit will show you what it is made of.

Ever wonder what the patterns in the Fisher Arcade all mean?

The Fisher Brothers didn't just decorate the walls. They told a larger story in color, form, and symbol. Across the frescoes, mosaics, and carved details, GΓ©za MarΓ³ti packed the Arcade with ideas about commerce, transportation, music, drama, and the strength of American culture.

Look closely and the patterns start to speak. Eagles appear in different poses to suggest strength, power, and protection. Muses represent the arts and creative inspiration. Stars point to guidance, ambition, and something celestial. Pomegranates symbolize abundance, prosperity, and fertility.

The figures in each niche tell the tale of commerce, culture, and human achievement. Other symbols nod to the four elements, while natural motifs like hemlock and birds of paradise add another layer to the building's visual language.

It's not just ornament. It's Detroit ambition, artistic vision, and a building designed to showcase the strength of Detroit. And it's even better in person. Come see the gold leaf for yourself.

There is a new mouthwatering aroma spreading through the Fisher Arcade, and it's coming from dose Cafe Detroit.

Try to imagine the perfect lunch, complete with their traditional Italian sourdough focaccia sandwiches. Think smoked carved ham, fresh mozzarella, sundried tomato, organic baby spinach, basil pesto, extra virgin olive oil, and house chips (and music) on the side.

And then there is the ube latte. Vibrant, unexpected, and exactly the kind of thing that makes you want to tell everyone about it. Semi-sweet yet just the right amount of zing.

Gourmet coffee with a creative edge and a sandwich that does not cut corners. This is lunch done right inside the Fisher Building arcade.

Find them inside the Fisher Building. Open now.
