I think one of the biggest misconceptions about storytelling is the idea that every story has to be universally relatable in order to have value.

Sometimes the power of a story is that it was made for someone who rarely gets to see themselves reflected at all.

That's actually what made Starfleet Academy interesting to me.

Its authenticity may have also been the thing that made some audiences disconnect from it. But that doesn't mean the stories shouldn't exist. If anything, that's why we should continue supporting them.

No, because once you notice it, you can't UN-notice it. 😭

This somehow turned into one of the funniest and most unexpectedly thoughtful conversations we've had in a while.

We started with vampires and somehow ended up discussing immortality, family trees, taboo storytelling, and the weird places centuries-long narratives tend to go. 😅

For more than 30 years, LGBT Detroit and Detroit’s longest-running Black LGBT+ Pride celebration, Hotter Than July, have continued that legacy by creating spaces where Black LGBT+ people can gather, organize, celebrate, and thrive. As we honor the freedom won by those who came before us, we also recognize the work that remains in building a future where every member of our community can live openly and authentically.

Catch Detroit City FC’s men’s team as they take on Louisville City FC in a Prinx USL Cup showdown at 5 PM, followed by the DCFC USL W team facing Union FC Macomb at 8 PM.
