1980s → 2026. Then and now.

A lot can change over the years. Neighborhoods grow, evolve, and welcome new businesses and new generations, but the heart of Greektown remains the same.

Through every era, the restaurants, gathering places, Greek heritage, families, business owners, and visitors have all played a part in its story. Today, we’re watching another transformation unfold as the new Monroe Streetscape takes shape and brings new possibilities to these historic blocks.

Different time. Same heart. Still Greektown.

Greektown is giving you plenty of reasons to come back.

A lot is happening on Monroe right now, with new experiences joining the food, culture, and traditions you already know and love.

If you haven’t been lately, it might be time to change that.

This weekend in Greektown, follow the music. 🎶

Friday kicks things off with live music from Drew Machak and dancing throughout the district with The Two Steppers. Saturday brings pop-acoustic performances from Monica Notaro + James Shelton, and Sunday closes out the weekend with Erin Z strolling Monroe Street with live violin.

And there’s even more happening Sunday. Greektown Loves Dolly brings a Dolly tribute performance to the district, plus a pink cowgirl hat giveaway. Wear your pink + denim and join the fun at Detroit’s only country bar all weekend long.

It’s all happening throughout the weekend with outdoor dining, local vendors Friday + Saturday, and plenty of music filling Monroe Street.

Another week, another step closer to the finished Monroe Streetscape.

The transformation continues to make its way down Monroe, with the next blocks getting closer to completion and more of the vision becoming a reality. It’s exciting to see just how much has changed so far—and how much more is taking shape.

There’s still work ahead, but we’re getting closer every day.

A district with nearly two centuries behind it, and plenty still ahead.

Greektown has always been shaped by the people, businesses and traditions that have called these blocks home. That history is still visible everywhere you look, even as the neighborhood continues to evolve around it.

Old landmarks. New experiences. The same unmistakable sense of place. This is the view from Greektown.

A Greektown landmark is getting a refresh.

The Detroit Transportation Corporation is partnering with Spectrum Neon to restore the iconic Stephen Antonakos artwork at the Greektown People Mover Station, recreating the installation with durable aluminum and modern LED technology while preserving its original design.

The station will remain open throughout the work, with the restored landmark expected to return this November. Detroit People Mover
