The Matrix Center

The Matrix Center The Matrix Human Services Center, a 50,000 sq. ft. The Mt. Zion Lutheran Church (founded 1924) was located at Gratiot and East McNichols on Detroit's east side. T.

community center on Detroit's Northeast side, through collaboration with nearly 200 Mission Partners, offers visitors access to educational programming, recreational & community activities. In October 1997, church members disbanded the church because of declining membership and sold the four (4) buildings and property to Matrix for $1. To meet the needs of low income Detroit residents, Matrix ha

s pioneered the shared space programming model at the Matrix Center in the Osborn community. Many of the youth and families using the Matrix Center lack private transportation, so having multiple community resources in one location is an added benefit. Matrix will celebrate our 20th anniversary of the Matrix Center in 2017. The Matrix Center encompasses a Mission Partner Network of 150 organizations providing programs and services, 360 days a year, to 15,000 Detroit children, youth, adults, seniors and families. It is located in one of the poorest and most blighted sections of Detroit. Through the onsite presence of Matrix and other nonprofit organizations, children, youth and families from low income families have access to free or reduced cost services: Head Start, after school youth programs , Tech Town, Osborn Neighborhood Alliance, OTS Runaway & Homeless Youth Program, emergency food (Forgotten Harvest), arts programs for children/youth, youth summer employment program (Grow Detroit's Young Talent), health education, summer program for children/youth, midnight boxing/basketball for youth (Detroit Police Department partner), youth leadership program (NSO), financial literacy and much more. Matrix Mission Partner Network organizations and tenants at The Center include: Henry Ford Health System Women Inspired Neighborhood Network, Henry Ford Health System Institute on Multicultural Health, United Children and Family Head Start, Forgotten Harvest, Narcotic Anonymous, NSO, Detroit PAL, John Seay Ministries Substance Abuse Training, Tech Town, Detroit Councilman Scott Benson's District 3 Office, University of Michigan Center for Family Advocacy, City of Detroit Department of Health and Wellness Promotion, Osborn Neighborhood Alliance (ONA), Matrix Employment Center, Food Lab/Detroit Kitchen Connect, Detroit Healthy Start Program, Total Life Christian Ministries Church, Matrix Michigan AIDS Coalition, Matrix Off The Streets Runaway & Homeless Youth Program, Academy of Warren Charter School ( after school program),Detroit Police Department,CeaseFire Initiative, Matrix Michigan AIDS Coalition, Detroit Hurricanes Youth Football Team(s), Mosaic Youth Theater, Parade Company, City of Detroit Detroit's Young Talent, Matrix Youth Assistance Program, buildOn Detroit, Pure Heart Foundation, Pixel I. ❤️ With these frigid temperatures, please check on a neighbor today.

A simple call or knock can make all the difference.

With frigid temperatures in the forecast, the City of Detroit is opening a second overnight shelter and operating daytime respite locations to provide relief from the cold.

To offer Detroit residents an escape from the cold, the Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries is activating an overnight stand-by shelter location at 13130 Woodward Avenue starting Friday, December 12 at 8 p.m. A second stand-by shelter for adults only, is being activated by Pope Francis Center located at 2915 West Hancock St., Detroit starting at 5 p.m. on Saturday, December 13th. Both sites will close on Tuesday, December 16 at 9 am. Residents can access this temporary shelter anytime by walking in, no referral needed, or by calling the Detroit Housing Resource HelpLine at 866-313-2520 operated 24/7.

Residents who are sleeping outside and need help may go to a police precinct any day after 6 p.m. or on the weekends and be connected with an outreach team for help with overnight services. You can find your nearest police precinct at detroitmi.gov/police.
