Checking in with someone can make a difference. A simple “How are you really doing?” may mean more than you realize. 💚

As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close, but the conversation does not end here.

Sometimes, the signs that someone may be struggling are easy to miss. A person experiencing a mental health crisis may show changes. It is also important to remember that not everyone struggles in visible ways. Some individuals may appear to be doing well on the outside while quietly carrying emotional challenges.

Our partners at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan have shared helpful information on recognizing signs of high-functioning depression: https://www.bcbsm.mibluedaily.com/stories/health-and-wellness/signs-of-high-functioning-depression

🍼🐤We had a great time showering new and expecting moms in our community with fun, food, and all the essentials they need for baby at our Tiny Kicks and Big Dreams Community Baby Shower. With the help of our amazing volunteers, sponsors, and partners we were able to provide diapers, wipes, bottles, strollers, car seats, other essentials and resources to new moms.

We could not do this without the help of our partners, sponsors, and volunteers! Thank you so much for showing these moms all the love! 💓

Sponsors: Ally , Corewell Health , and RBC Wealth Management
Partners: Corwell Health, Happy Mama Counseling , Calm Nonprofit , Detroit Health Department, Empowering Family Services, and Problem Pregnancy Center.

Teacher Appreciation Week may be coming to a close, but the impact of teachers lasts far beyond just one week. ❤️🍎

At AFG, our teachers do so much more than lead classrooms. They create safe spaces, encourage confidence, spark curiosity, wipe tears, celebrate milestones, and help shape the next generation of leaders every single day.

This “day in the life” is just a small glimpse into the care, patience, compassion, and dedication they pour into our girls and families daily.

To our incredible teachers: thank you for showing up with love, strength, and unwavering commitment. The work you do matters more than words can say — and it deserves to be celebrated every day of the year. ✨

Meet ✨Michele✨, Site Administrator & Lead Teacher at AFG’s Early Childhood Education Center!

Michele says she was “born a teacher,” a calling shaped by growing up as the youngest of eight and caring for children from an early age. That lifelong passion has guided her every step of the way, from babysitting at just ten years old to leading with purpose and heart today.

Her journey with AFG began in a different role, supporting mothers and infants as a Maternal Infant Health Specialist. Now, as she prepares to lead at the new Still I Rise center opening in 2026, Michele brings deep experience, wisdom, and a commitment to holistic, trauma-informed care for every family she serves. 🌱

For Michele, every child and every mother matters. She meets each family where they are, helping parents build confidence while supporting children as they reach important developmental milestones. Her approach is rooted in the belief that it truly takes a village—and she’s proud to be part of that village every day.

With over 18 years of experience running her own nationally accredited childcare center, Michele has always believed in preparing children not just for school, but for life—raising confident, capable leaders who will one day shape our world. 💫

Today, this week, and every day, we celebrate the care, leadership, and heart you bring to AFG, Michele! ❤️

Meet 🌟Chytia🌟 a Lead Teacher in AFG's Early Childhood Education Center!

Chytia’s path to teaching began long before a classroom. It started in her childhood home, surrounded by siblings, neighbors, and foster children. What began as “playing school” in her mom’s basement quickly became something more, as she instinctively found ways to help each child learn, grow, and feel included. 💕📖

These experiences stayed with her, proving that even at a young age, she had a natural gift for reaching children in ways that mattered. Through creativity, patience, and care, she created a space where kids felt safe, engaged, and excited to learn. It’s a calling she continues to carry with her today, rooted in connection, compassion, and the belief that every child can thrive.🧸

Thank you, Chytia, for helping build a safe and nurturing space for the girls and young women we serve. 🥰

Meet 💫Toashie💫an Assistant Teacher in AFG's Early Childhood Education Center!

For Toashie, teaching became a calling when she realized her true purpose was helping children discover their own. What makes her journey unique is her commitment to holistic care, supporting not just learning, but safety, stability, and growth for every child and family she serves. Through each experience, she’s reminded that this work is about showing up, staying strong, and never giving up on those who need it most. 📚

Inspired daily by the resilience of the families around her, Toashie pours intention into creating lasting impact beyond the classroom. She hopes her students carry forward not only knowledge, but the confidence, skills, and mindset to navigate life ahead. Looking to the future, her goal is clear: to continue making a meaningful difference in the lives of both her team and the families who walk through AFG's doors. 💛
