Wayne County Commissioner Allen Wilson (District 11) presented Romulus Middle School Secretary Maria Scott with a Resolution recognizing her selfless bravery, quick-thinking and heroism on January 6, 2026 by preventing a potentially tragic incident.

Ms. Scott demonstrated extraordinary courage and professionalism after observing a parent exhibiting erratic and concerning behavior on the school’s surveillance system. Ms. Scott made the critical decision not to grant him entry into the secured building – potentially saving many lives that day.

Michigan Department of Health and Human Services presented Wayne County’s Health, Human & Veteran’s Services Department with a Public Health Accreditation Certificate at the June 18 full board meeting.

The Michigan Local Public Health Accreditation Program (MLPHAP) is a statewide initiative led by the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services (MDHHS) in partnership with the Michigan Public Health Institute (MPHI) and other state agencies. It was launched in 1998 to assure and enhance the quality of local public health services across Michigan.

The program sets public health standards for Michigan’s 45 local health departments and evaluates them on their ability to meet these standards. Accreditation ensures that local health departments can:
• Provide vaccinations and disease prevention programs;
• Ensure safe food, water, and air;
• Respond to emerging health threats; and
• Promote policies that create healthier communities.

Wayne County Commissioner Terry Marecki (District 9) joined U.S Representative Debbie Dingell, Wayne County Executive Warren Evans, Northville Mayor Brian Turnbull, SEMCOG Chair Gwen Markham and other elected officials, project partners and community stakeholders for a ribbon cutting today to celebrate the completion of the new roundabout in Northville – the first roundabout in Wayne County!

The roundabout located at the intersection of 7 Mile Road, Sheldon Road, and Center Street in Northville Michigan opened to traffic on December 19, 2025. This single-lane roundabout marks a significant milestone for the County, replacing a previously signalized intersection that had long been plagued by traffic congestion, speeding, and limited access for pedestrians and cyclists. The project was budgeted at $2.5 million, with $2.17 million funded through federal grants and the city paying a required $375,000 match.

A second roundabout funded by SEMCOG is planned for Seven Mile and Hines Drive, with construction targeted for 2028 or sooner.

Wayne County Commissioner Sam Baydoun (District 13) joined Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Wayne County Executive Warren Evans, Deputy Wayne County Executive Assad Turfe, State Representative Alabas Farhat, Dearborn Mayor Abdullah Hammoud and other elected officials, project partners and community stakeholders for a ribbon cutting today to celebrate the completion of the new Miller-Rotunda Bridge.

The Miller–Rotunda Bridge was originally built as a rare T shaped, riveted steel bent truss bridge in 1931, connecting Miller Road and Rotunda Drive over the Ford Railroad. It was demolished and replaced as part of a $60 million reconstruction to improve safety and reliability for the heavily traveled corridor.

The project replaced two aging bridge structures carrying Miller Road and Rotunda Drive over a rail corridor and included upgraded roadway approaches and enhanced safety improvements. The bridge is expected to open to traffic on June 26.
