Safe Alternatives for Abused Families is a non-profit organization offering advocacy services to victims of domestic and sexual violence. After much consideration, Safe Alternatives for Abused Families has made the difficult decision to close our doors and suspend operations at 4pm today. We know that our closure may come as a shock, and victims, survivors, our community partners, and concerned members of the public likely have questions. We don't have all the answers right now, but we want to emphasize that the safety and healing of victims and survivors remains our number one priority. We are working with our Board and partners to ensure that victims in Devils Lake and the surrounding communities have access to services.

Until further notice, victims and survivors in the Devils Lake area can contact the Spirit Lake Victim Assistance crisis line if they are looking for support: 701-766-1816

Victims and survivors can also find help at any domestic violence/sexual assault advocacy center in North Dakota. A full list of help centers can be found on the North Dakota Domestic & Sexual Violence Coalition (NDDSVC) website at https://nddsvc.org/find-help.

Finally, we want to say thank you. We are so grateful for the endless community support we’ve received since our founding in 1980. For years, we’ve envisioned a community without violence, where everyone can experience a safe and caring environment. To our team, board, partners, and supporters, thank you for your time, care, and steadfast belief in that future.

February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month! 🧡

🧡 When you’re in your first relationship, it’s hard to know what’s healthy and what’s not. Some things—like jealousy, control, or guilt-tripping—can seem like “love” at first, but they’re actually 🚩 red flags. 🚩

🧡 Love should feel safe, supportive, and respectful. If something feels off, trust your gut. Know the red flags, look out for your friends, and don’t be afraid to ask for help.

📞 If you have any questions, please call our 24/7 hotline at 701-409-0665

February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month! 🧡

🧡 Dating violence is more common than you may think, especially among teens and young adults: 1 in 3 U.S. teens will experience physical, sexual, or emotional abuse from someone they’re in a relationship with. And nearly half (43%) of U.S. college women report experiencing violent or abusive dating behaviors.

🧡 Tomorrow (Feb 11) is wear orange day. Please wear orange to raise awareness about teen dating violence!
