With the lack of rainfall, many of us are struggling to keep our gardens going. But we hope several of you will have a pumpkin, or a sunflower head, or a heavy tomato that you will enter for judging at the Washington County Free Fair on Tuesday, September 8. The 2026 fair book provides entry details. Page 25 discusses details for Department 9 entries: all entries must be in by 7:00 pm on September 8. Link to 2026 Fair book is: https://washingtoncountyok.gov/free-fair
Even if your entry seems small to you, it might be the contest winner that provides some extra money to you.

Friends, due to a date error on the first flyer we sent to you, this is a replacement flyer for everyone. The fair is open to the public on Thursday, 9/10, Friday, 9/11 and Saturday, 9/12. Don't forget to enter your fair exhibits for judging on Tuesday, 9/8; judging occurs on 9/9.

Get your kicks on Route 66 is the 2026 theme for the Washington County Oklahoma Fair. The Master Gardener Booth has many things planned at their booth. In addition to crafts for the children, the Master Gardeners are again bringing the OSU Insect Adventure to the fair. It will be here most of the day on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 10 & 11 as well as at the Kane Elementary School for students on Wednesday, Sept. 9. Come and learn more about all the benefits insects provide to humans. Brave people can touch some of the insects. Our flyer provides more hints of what you will see at our booth

So many people have been impacted by our July 4th windstorm. Trees in Bartlesville, Dewey and surrounding areas received a lot of damage. OSU has several Fact Sheets about pruning and care of trees. EPP-7323 Managing Storm Damaged Trees discusses assessment of the damage and whether the tree might be saved.
Trees that can be saved need help. Proper pruning is critical to facilitate quick wound response by the tree (compartmentalization). Compartmentalization results in the isolation of microorganisms or barriers to insects to prevent them from causing further damage to the tree. Trees initiate compartmentalization in their sapwood
very quickly following injury. This helps combat infection by
invading pathogens and insects. Read more in EPP-7323:https://extension.okstate.edu/fact-sheets/print-publications/epp-entomology-and-plant-pathologhy/managing-storm-damaged-trees-epp-7323.pdf

Additional tree care Fact Sheets are available for current needs:

Watch for future posting for planting trees and training young trees. The training period is the time to correct problems that could lead to storm damage in mature trees. You can go to:
