Heavy Hauler update provided by Newton County Sheriff’s Office:

The “tow truck” assisting the heavy hauler is stuck and the load is at the intersection of CR4213 and CR4212.

Both CR4212 & CR4213 are blocked at this intersection.

Newton County Sheriff’s Office is on scene and will continue to provide me with updates so I can pass along to the residents.

Update on Heavy Hauler & Road closures

05/27/2026

Important Notice:

Today (05/27/2026), I was notified that on Friday morning at approximately 10:00am, a heavy hauler with an oversized load will be exiting state Hwy 87 and on ramping CR4212. The load is coming from Mauriceville, and then turning southbound on Hwy87. The heavy hauler will travel down CR4212 until the load reaches CR4213, at which point the load will turn onto CR4213 and travel to the entrance of the Cottonwood Plant Site.

It will take approximately one to two hours for the load to reach the plant site, after turning off State Hwy 87. During this haul CR4212 and CR4213 will be impassible at times as this load can’t “move to the shoulder”, and for this reason we will have support from the Newton County Sheriffs office to manage Emergency calls related to Fires and or Medical Services.

My office will have Precinct 4 employees staged at CR4212 & CR4213, to help manage or direct traffic. This is our effort to support the Newton County Sheriff’s office and the Es**rt Service that will be accompanying the Heavy Hauler.

Lastly, in March of 2026, I was provided with an Engineering report detailing the road and bridges on CR4212, this report was conducted specifically relating to the heavy hauler and load that will be transported. The design of the heavy hauler and number of tires has the PSI displacement at an acceptable level for the road and bridges. This report was compiled by a third-party engineering contractor and was reviewed by Cottonwood engineers and county engineers.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me on my cell or office phone.

Today was a big day for Newton County, when it comes to representation.

At the suggestion of Judge Cochran, I made the motion that the Commissioners Court appoint Karen Smith Landrum to the Ground Water Conservation District. The Court was unanimous in their decision!

You will be hearing more about this board and their purpose in weeks to come. Today, the main purpose of this post is to share that this board has a major role in the use and management of our water resources as well as the water supply in neighboring counties.

Karen certainly speaks with confidence regarding matters affecting Newton County and will represent all of the citizens of Newton County in her position.

Congratulations Karen and best wishes!

This week we placed flags on the graves of all the Veterans, in Suddith, Deweyville, Kings, Stephenson and out at Shepherd’s Road Cemetery (in 4L).

We have been waiting for Monday morning and better weather to place flags on our County buildings, however Monday’s weather is likely rain.

So, this morning we placed flags at the Annex and at the County Barn. We are having some programming difficulties with the electrical sign, but we hope to have it resolved by tomorrow morning with a salute to our fallen soldiers.

Thanks to all who served and tomorrow we especially salute those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom we have today!
