Last night, at the Dexter Fire Department Annual Banquet, the Town of Brownville Joint Fire District had the privilege of recognizing and honoring three of our members for their extraordinary efforts in saving a life.

Last May, TBFD was dispatched to a Cardiac Arrest on County Route 59 in the Town of Brownville. Assistant Chief Nathan Young, firefighter Scott LaSage, and EMT Drew Heise all responded in 7-3-1 from station 1. They arrived on scene in under 10 minutes from the time of the initial call to find a male who was not breathing and was in cardiac arrest. Using their training and amazing teamwork, they were able to work the patient and provide the 1st defibrillator “shock” in under a minute of arrival. The crew continued CPR and continued to work on the patient. The patient ultimately regained a pulse following the 3rd “shock” from TBFD. The patient was transported to SMC and later to Crouse Hospital.

We are extremely honored and proud to say that the patient, whose name is Hal, has made a full recovery. Hal was in attendance at the annual banquet last night with his wife and daughter. Hal’s wife briefly spoke to the members about the amazing service that we all do and how thankful they are for the men and women of the Town of Brownville Joint Fire District.

A/C Young, FF LaSage, and EMT Heise all received plaques from the TBFD, as well as the 2026 Commendation Award from office of 49th District NYS Senator Mark Walczyk for their extraordinary efforts.
