BERKOT’S DOES IT AGAIN
For the second time in the past year, Berkot’s IGA Store in Coal City has presented their Monthly “Round-Up” donation to Coal City’s St. Juvin VFW Post 1336. Pictured are Berkot’s Manager Gary Onsen presenting a check to (from left) Post Quartermaster Keith Roseland, Post Commander James “Hoppy” Phillips and Post Member Bill Sebrell
The Post has been in existence for over 100 years now, since the WWI Veterans returned home from Combat. As of the 2025-2026 State of Illinois (VFW Post Roster), there remains 242 Illinois Posts that exist today. St. Juvin VFW Post 1336 serving Coal City/Diamond/Carbon Hill continues to be the 31st oldest VFW Post in the State. Because the Post no longer has a venue (such as a Hall/Bar/Restaurant) where its members can meet and socialize, it has been hard to attract new members and consequently generate funds to remain in existence. St. Juvin Post truly remains in existence only because of the generosity of donors such as Berkot’s Store, a handful of individual donors, and our Poppy Day collections. We have been blessed for the past 15 years or longer, with the kindness of the folks residing at Country Meadows Estates, who allow us to use their Clubhouse free of charge. Without those mentioned above we could not do what we do in our Communities. A special thanks again to Berkot’s and to all that support our mission, our activities, and our existence. Bomba Pictures.
