Today, the Dickson Fire Department joins our community in mourning the loss of an extraordinary woman, Dolly Parton.

Dolly’s love for Tennessee and her unwavering support for first responders have touched countless lives. Through her generosity, compassion, and dedication to the people of Tennessee, she has always been a shining example of what it means to give back and care for your community.

Her support of the fire service will never be forgotten. Her legacy will continue to inspire us as we serve our community with the same kindness, heart, and selflessness that she showed to so many.

The Dickson Fire Department will deeply miss her. Thank you, Dolly, for everything you did for firefighters, first responders, and the people of Tennessee.

This is a great thing about the fire service. Departments are constantly sharing useful training tools and ideas. Thank you South Metro Fire Rescue for this tremendous training tool for our crews and public educators! These color coded boards will be used to describe the dangers of heat through the various heights within a room.

Your City of Dickson Fire Department is excited to partner with Nashville State Community College as they begin their EMS program in Dickson. This morning, students began the charter EMT-B course. The department wants to wish Nashville State, and their students, the best as they begin their EMS journeys. We don’t just rescue cats from trees. This morning member of your City of Dickson Fire Department, along with members of the Ashland City Fire Department, Charlotte Fire Department, and Harpeth Ridge Fire Department came together to rescue Carl from a ledge approximately one hundred feet off a steep embankment. Member of Dickson Fire’s SORT (Special Operations Response Team) were deployed over the edge using high angle rope rescue systems. These mechanical advantage systems provide the safest means to lower, and raise, rescuers and victims… even our four-legged ones. These are the exact situations our members train for: HIGH RISK - LOW FREQUENCY. We are thankful for our mutual aid partners and are always ready reciprocate. Advanced training isn’t a luxury—it’s an investment in our community. This is exactly why DFD Fire Apparatus Engineer Tisdale recently attended and completed the Advanced Pump Operations class at the Tennessee Fire and Codes Academy.

Sending a firefighter to an Advanced Pump Operations class strengthens our department’s ability to move water efficiently, operate confidently under pressure, and maximize the resources we have on every fireground.

As our community grows, so do the challenges we face. Rest assured, DFD is growing with them. 🚒💪
