I continue to fight the "death tax" in Illinois and am pushing to have my legislation heard during Veto Session.

DIETERICH, IL… State Rep. Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) continues his push of HB 2601 to double the exemption on the Illinois inheritance tax to $8 million before any state taxes are collected. The Illinois Exemption is currently at $4 million while the Federal Exemption is $15 million.

Congratulations to the Effingham County Regional Airport on their runway expansion! Thank you to everyone who came out to the ribbon-cutting ceremony this week. The project has been in the works since early 2000 with an environmental assessment, followed by the purchase of property to the east, an update to the airport layout plan, and the relocation of a road on the east side to accommodate the extension.

UPDATE: The Governor's Proclamation filed on Tuesday is here to confirm that these counties are eligible for grants. The Governor's grant site may not be updated, but the applications are still valid.

Two counties in our area, Champaign & Vermilion, are covered by the August disaster proclamation for having endured a series of severe weather events July 27, August 9-11 and Aug. 13-16.

Communities in those areas are now eligible to apply for disaster response funding through the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity’s Community Development Block Grant. Learn more here: (https://dceo.illinois.gov/communitydevelopment/publicinfrastructuresetaside.html)

The proclamation is intended to mobilize resources for debris removal and repairs to public infrastructure and will give small, rural communities the opportunity to apply for disaster relief funding of up to $250,000. The declaration directs state agencies like the Illinois Emergency Management Agency, Department of Transportation, Environmental Protection Agency, and Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity to help impacted communities.

Illinois state agencies have been plagued by a lack of transparency and accountability under the Pritzker administration, resulting in failure after failure. The dysfunction cannot be allowed to continue.

Governor Pritzker's answer to Illinois' sky-high SNAP error rate isn't accountability, it's another taxpayer-funded giveaway. Instead of fixing the broken system under his watch, he's proposing to spend even more taxpayer money on benefits for able-bodied adults who don't qualify for SNAP. Illinois taxpayers shouldn't have to bankroll another expensive distraction from his administration's failures.

The new FRESH initiative allows households that lost their SNAP benefits earlier this year to receive a $400 one-time payment.
