I toured my alma mater at Eastern Illinois University last week with Rep. Chris Miller to see the improvement projects taking place around the campus. We met with President Jay Gatrell and other university officials and saw the work being done from chemistry labs to athletic facilities. I am pleased to see the re-investment in our important educational institution for our region and the State of Illinois. I also spoke to the American Legion's Illinois Premier Boys State while they were on campus for the 89th Session.

I am thankful there were no fatalities from these tornadoes that hit my hometown of Teutopolis, Dieterich, and the Coles County area. Thank you to the officials and first responders for their swift action to get help to those affected and to everyone who is pitching in to help their neighbors. Prayers for all impacted by this storm.

Thank you to the hunters who donated deer to the Hunters Feeding Illinois program this year, as well as the meat processors and food pantries who made this source of lean protein available to families in need across Illinois. "This season, Charlie’s Deer Processing and Smokehouse in Bridgeport and Legacy Meats in Sumner processed a total of 83 donated deer. Generous local donations covered all processing costs, making the effort possible. In total, 2,698 pounds of ground venison—estimated at 10,792 servings—were delivered to five food pantries within the Feeding Illinois food bank network in Lawrence, Richland, and Wabash counties. Illinois Extension also provided cookbooks, educational materials, kitchen tools, and meat mashers to help food pantry patrons enjoy their venison." The program provided an estimated 138,900 meals in 48 counties last season.
