A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 10 pm for southwest, south central and central Kansas. Primary hazards will be strong damaging winds and lightning which may lead to rapid wildfire starts. Isolated quarter size hail will also be possible, mainly east of highway 283.

We've received numerous complaints about semi-truck trailers being parked in various residential areas in Dighton. These trucks are not allowed to permanently park on city streets in a residential area or in alleyways. Semi owners and operators are asked not to park in these areas for the long term. Otherwise, they could face a fine or run the risk of being towed.

A Red Flag Warning is in effect today for southwest and central Kansas. Gusty southwest winds combined with ongoing dry conditions will create critical fire conditions. Any open fires could quickly spread and be difficult to contain.

A strong cold front will race through southwest Kansas early Sunday morning. North winds Sunday will be intense, averaging near 40 mph with gusts of 60-70 mph. Areas of blowing dust and difficult travel can be expected.
