The Dillingham Police Department would like to congratulate Chief Tracy O’Malley and Sergeant Tanner Nickels on their recent accomplishments at the FBI-LEEDA Supervisor Leadership Institute hosted by the University of Alaska Fairbanks Police Department.

Chief O’Malley was recognized with the FBI-LEEDA Trilogy Award, a distinguished achievement reflecting the completion of an extensive leadership development program. Sergeant Nickels successfully completed the Supervisor Leadership Institute, further strengthening his leadership skills in service to our community.

Professional training and leadership development are essential to building a strong, effective police department. We are proud to bring this knowledge and experience back to Dillingham as we continue serving our community.

Congratulations, Chief O’Malley and Sergeant Nickels!

This Memorial Day, the Dillingham Police Department honors and remembers the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice secured the freedoms we enjoy every day and will never be forgotten.

We also recognize and thank the veterans within our own community who continue serving others long after their military service ended. Your dedication, sacrifice, and commitment to public service are deeply appreciated.

As we spend time with family and friends this weekend, we encourage everyone to take a moment to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

From all of us at the Dillingham Police Department, have a safe and meaningful Memorial Day.

As National Police Week begins, the Dillingham Police Department would like to recognize and honor the men and women of law enforcement across our nation who serve their communities each and every day.

National Police Week 2026 is observed from May 10th through May 16th, with Peace Officers Memorial Day recognized on May 15th. This week serves as a time to remember the officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty and to show appreciation for those who continue to serve with courage, professionalism, and dedication.

During this week, we especially remember Officer Anthony “Tony” Jones, who was killed in the line of duty on February 12, 1992, while serving the community of Dillingham. Officer Jones answered the call to assist fellow officers during an active gunfire incident and made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others. His dedication, courage, and commitment to this community will never be forgotten.

We also recognize and thank the families of law enforcement officers for the sacrifices they make behind the scenes every day. Your support and strength are an important part of public safety service.

To all current and retired law enforcement officers, dispatchers, corrections officers, VPSOs, troopers, firefighters, EMS personnel, and public safety professionals, thank you for your service and commitment to keeping our communities safe.

Please keep all fallen officers and their families in your thoughts this week.

DILLINGHAM PARENTS & RIDERS – IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN

The snow is melting, the days are longer, and once again the four-wheelers, quads, dirt bikes, UTVs, scooters, and every other two-wheeled thing with an engine are out and about around town.

We are glad to see our youth enjoying outdoor activities and staying active. However, with that comes an important reminder:

Parents are responsible for ensuring their children operate these machines safely, lawfully, and respectfully. That means being mindful of pedestrians, other motorists, private property, and basic safety practices.

These vehicles can cause serious injury or death in seconds when operated carelessly.

⚠️ Dillingham Municipal Code Reminders:

Under Dillingham Municipal Code Chapter 11.20 (Off-Road Vehicles), violations may result in citations and fines, including:

Operating an off-road vehicle in the business district – $75 fine (DMC 11.20.020)
Improper operation on state roadways – $75 fine (DMC 11.20.030/ .040)
Improper operation on city roadways – $75 fine (DMC 11.20.050/ .060)
Age restriction violations – $75 fine (DMC 11.20.070)
Helmet violations – $75 fine (DMC 11.20.075)
Headlight violations – $75 fine (DMC 11.20.080)
Parental responsibility violations – $75 fine (DMC 11.20.090)

🚔 Common Sense Goes a Long Way:

Helmets save lives
Slow down near homes and pedestrians
Stay off sidewalks and restricted areas
No reckless riding or showing off in traffic
Respect private property
If your child is too young or immature to operate safely, they should not be riding

📢 Bottom Line:

If your child is operating one of these vehicles unsafely, you may be the one receiving the citation.

Let’s make this a safe summer for everyone in Dillingham. Ride smart, supervise your kids, and keep it fun.

📞🚔 Happy National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week! 🚔📞

This week we recognize the real MVPs of Dillingham… our dispatchers.

The ones who:

• Can give directions like “take a left at the third snowmachine track past the old boat” and somehow make it make sense

• Translate radio traffic that sounds like it’s coming from the bottom of the bay

• And answer calls ranging from “there’s a moose in my yard” to “my neighbor’s generator is louder than mine”

They keep things running whether it’s -20°, blowing sideways, or the internet decides to quit for the day.

Let’s be honest… without dispatch, patrol would still be out there trying to find “that house by the river.”

Just a reminder, if you see a suspicious rabbit hopping around town carrying eggs, we are aware and currently investigating. At this time, the suspect is considered extremely fluffy and possibly armed with candy.

Please celebrate responsibly, keep an eye on your little egg hunters, and remember:
• Speeding to Easter dinner is still speeding
• Hiding eggs in the roadway is a terrible plan
• The bunny is not exempt from local ordinances

From all of us at DPD, have a safe, happy, and chocolate-filled Easter! 🌷🐣

🚨 DPD: Dynamic Duo Detained 🚨

These two professional troublemakers were found roaming at large like they pay taxes here. Unfortunately for them, Animal Control does not accept “we were just vibing” as a valid excuse.

They are now safely secured at the shelter, pending bail (aka owner pickup). Both appear friendly, slightly suspicious, and possibly repeat offenders in the crime of being loose.

If these look like your partners in crime, come claim them before they start demanding room service and legal representation.

📍 Contact DPD / Animal Control for pickup

Reminder: Leashes are cheaper than bail. 🐾
