🔥WILDFIRE UPDATE – 6/6 evening🔥

🔥DUBOIS
Located northwest of Dillon in the East Pioneer Mountains, the lightning-caused Dubois Fire remains at just under an acre and is 100% contained.

Firefighters continued their work to secure the constructed handline and "mop-up" areas of residual heat throughout the fire area. Any remaining isolated pockets of heat are well interior to the fire's perimeter. The fire area received a decent amount of precipitation today.

🔥WILDFIRE UPDATE – 6/6🔥

🔥DUBOIS
Located northwest of Dillon in the East Pioneers, between Bond Lake and Deerhead Lake and below Torrey Mountain, the lightning-caused Dubois Fire remains at just under an acre.

Firefighters completed handline construction around the entire perimeter, and the fire's southern edge is holding along the Mast Ditch that runs parallel to Dubois Creek and provides a barrier to fire spread. Crews also fell hazard trees ("snags") in the fire area to address risk to the firefighters on the ground.

Firefighters will continue to secure the constructed handline and "mop-up" (fully extinguish) areas of residual heat, especially in the heavy dead and downed fuels.

Residual smoke may be visible due to the prolonged smoldering in the heavy fuels.

🔥WILDFIRE UPDATE – 6/5🔥

🔥DUBOIS
Located northwest of Dillon in the East Pioneers, between Bond Lake and Deerhead Lake and below Torrey Mountain, the lightning-caused Dubois Fire remains at just under an acre.

Firefighters completed handline construction around the entire perimeter last evening. The fire's southern edge is holding along the Mast Ditch that runs parallel to Dubois Creek and provides a barrier to fire spread.

Responding suppression resources included one helicopter with crew and two suppression modules, for a total of 15 personnel. Firefighters will continue to secure the constructed handline and "mop-up" (fully extinguish) areas of residual heat today.

The fire is mainly smoldering in the heavy downed fuels, as shown in the attached photo.

Residual smoke may be visible from Interstate 15 from Divide to Dillon and from the eastern valleys from Twin Bridges to Sheridan.

🔥WILDFIRE UPDATE – 6/4 evening🔥

🔥DUBOIS
Located northwest of Dillon in the East Pioneers, between Bond Lake and Deerhead Lake and below Torrey Mountain, the Dubois Fire remains at just under an acre. The cause of the fire is a lightning strike from a thunderstorm that passed through the area a week ago.

Forward progress of the fire has been halted, thanks to the aggressive initial attack efforts of the firefighters. Following the morning helicopter recon flight, firefighters used chainsaws to cut a safe access route into the fire's remote location and complete sawline around its perimeter.

Crews also worked to construct handline, progressing around the perimeter. The fire's southern edge is holding along the Mast Ditch that runs parallel to Dubois Creek and provides a barrier to fire spread.

The fire is located in steep, rocky terrain in heavy standing dead ("snags") and downed lodgepine pine. Today's fire behavior was mainly creeping and smoldering in the heavy downed fuels.

Residual smoke may be visible from Interstate 15 from Divide to Dillon and from the eastern valleys from Twin Bridges to Sheridan.

Prescribed Fire Operations
Week of May 25, 2026

🔥Fire officials on the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest may implement prescribed burning operations this week, as weather and fuels conditions allow. Fire officials will closely monitor weather conditions prior to ignitions.

POTENTIAL project areas include the following:

WISDOM RANGER DISTRICT:
📍 Steel Creek Project - The targeted unit is located 4 miles east/southeast of Wisdom. Fire crews plan to burn approximately 100 acres.

Smoke will likely disperse to the east with minimal impacts to local area residents of the Big Hole Valley. Smoke may be visible from the community of Wisdom and surrounding areas on the day of ignitions and potentially for one to two days following.

BUTTE RANGER DISTRICT:
📍 Red Rocks Project - The targeted unit is located up the Boulder River Road, 2.5 miles west of the Bernice Exit off Interstate 15. Fire crews plan to burn approximately 5 acres, as part of their critical training for new and returning firefighters for the season.

Minimal smoke impacts are anticipated; however, smoke may be visible in the Interstate 15 corridor and along the Boulder River Road.

For a complete list of prescribed fire and pile burn locations, project and unit maps, and other project information, visit the Forest’s Prescribed Fire Inciweb page.
