On Saturday, our 4-H Shooting Sports Club held our annual end-of-year cookout, and we had a wonderful turnout! Our youth members even managed to squeeze in some practice time between much-needed rain showers.

We cannot thank our devoted parents and club leaders enough for the time, support, and dedication they pour into this program. Because of caring adults like you, we are helping raise the next generation of outdoorsmen while building confidence, responsibility, and leadership skills that will brighten their futures for years to come.

A special thank you to the Dillon County Rifle and Gun Club for allowing our club to practice at your facility. We truly appreciate your continued support and your commitment to investing in the youth of Dillon County through 4-H.

On Saturday we had a great kickoff to our 4-H Fishing Club at Pittman Pond! 🎣 We had over 15 youth join us for a fun afternoon of fishing, learning, and enjoying the outdoors together.

A huge thank you to the Pittman family for graciously allowing our group to use their beautiful pond for this event. We also want to thank Byron Covington for helping with the club and lending a helping hand to our young anglers throughout the afternoon.
Congratulations to Harris George for catching the biggest fish of the day! 🐟 Great job, Harris!

Fishing is a wonderful activity for youth because it teaches patience, responsibility, and outdoor skills while helping kids build confidence and connect with nature. We are excited for another great season with our 4-H Fishing Club! 💚

We had a TREE-mendous time yesterday with Mrs. Frances and her afterschool group at the Learning Experience Center in Lake View! 🌳🍃

4-H students learned all about how trees compete for resources like sunlight, water, nutrients, and space to grow. Just like people, trees must work hard to get what they need to survive! Taller trees can block sunlight from smaller trees, and roots spread through the soil competing for water and nutrients.
Students discovered how scientists can tell a tree’s age by counting its growth rings and even made their own tree ring necklaces to take home! 🌲🪵

We also played our “Every Tree for Itself” game where students pretended to be trees competing for resources in the forest. To wrap up the afternoon, everyone enjoyed making a delicious Tree Trail Mix!

Our ingredients represented different tree resources:
🥨 Stick pretzels = roots
☁️ Marshmallows = air
🟢 Green M&Ms = nutrients
🔵 Blue M&Ms = water
🟡 Yellow M&Ms = sunlight

Thank you to Mrs. Frances and the Learning Experience Center for inviting 4-H to spend the afternoon learning and growing together! 💚🌳

🪨🍀🎤 Rock Your Speech Presentation 🪨🍀🎤
Yesterday, 8 Dillon County 4‑H members attended our Fun in 4‑H Club meeting to practice overcoming their fear of public speaking. Each youth selected and decorated a pet rock, then rehearsed a one-minute speech to share about their creation. I was so impressed that even our most shy members confidently stood up to present, showing growth in both courage and communication skills.

A big thank you to Mrs. Emily for her help and to Miss Alexis for bringing such creativity with her unicorn pet rock! It was a fun-filled time enjoyed by both kids and adults alike.

Activities like this help 4‑H youth build confidence, improve communication skills, and practice expressing themselves in front of others. By providing a fun, supportive environment—like speaking about a pet rock—youth can take risks, receive positive feedback, and gradually overcome their fears. These exercises strengthen critical life skills such as public speaking, self-assurance, and leadership, which benefit them both inside and outside the classroom.

🎄💚 Santa has elves… hospitals have nurses! 💚🎄
This holiday season, Dillon and Marlboro County Fun in 4-H clubs have been busy spreading cheer by creating Christmas stockings for the amazing nurses at McLeod Dillon. ✨

These stockings are a small way for our 4-H youth to say thank you to the nurses who work tirelessly to care for our community—especially during the holidays. We are so proud of our clubs for giving back and showing appreciation through service and kindness.

🎅 A big thank you to Mrs. Susie Lee for leading our youth in making festive Elf Hat desserts, and to Mrs. Emily Long for assisting with our crafts! We truly appreciate all you do for our Dillon 4-H program. ❤️
