FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Incident Resolution at Village at Wintergreen Apartments in Keystone

The Dillon Keystone Police Department announced safe resolution of a police incident that occurred earlier today at the Village at Wintergreen Apartments in Keystone.

At approximately 6:42 a.m., the Summit County Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call from an adult male reporting an active trespass in their residence. The caller stated they were barricaded in their bathroom and urgently requested assistance.

Officers arrived on scene in less than two minutes. Upon arrival, officers were initially unable to make direct contact with the reporting party but could hear active screaming from inside the unit. Based on these exigent circumstances, officers made the decision to force entry into the residence to ensure the safety of those potentially involved.

After entering, officers determined that no active trespass was occurring. Instead, the reporting party appeared to be experiencing severe hallucinations and was in possession of a knife. Out of an abundance of caution, officers immediately evacuated the surrounding area and implemented a temporary lockdown to protect nearby residents while working to resolve the situation.

At approximately 1:00 p.m., officers successfully took the individual into protective custody without further incident. The individual was transported to receive the medical attention and care he required.

The Dillon Keystone Police Department would like to thank our law enforcement and emergency response partners for their critical assistance in achieving a safe outcome, including Summit County Sheriff's Office, SMART, Frisco Police Department, Silverthorne Police Department, Municipal Emergency Response Team, and Summit Fire & EMS.

This incident highlights the importance of coordinated response and prioritizing both public safety and the well-being of individuals in crisis.
