🏆 Congratulations to Dino Schmaltz – 2026 Water Systems Operations Specialist of the Year! 🏆

The Town of Dillsboro is proud to congratulate former Water Superintendent Dino Schmaltz on being named the 2026 Water Systems Operations Specialist of the Year by the Alliance of Indiana Rural Water.

This prestigious statewide award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication, leadership, and service within Indiana's water industry. Dino was honored for his decades of service, professionalism, technical expertise, and commitment to dependable utility operations.

Dino began his career in 1978 and has been recognized as a trusted voice of reason, a mentor to future operators, and a leader who has consistently stepped up during challenging situations. His lasting contributions have strengthened both the utility systems he served and the communities that depend on them.

Dino dedicated many years of service to the Town of Dillsboro, and his knowledge, work ethic, and commitment to public service left a lasting impact on our community. We are grateful for his contributions and pleased to see him receive this well-deserved recognition.

ROAD CLOSURE UPDATE – MAIN STREET

The west half of Main Street remains on schedule for roadway work beginning tomorrow, Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

Closure Schedule
• The west half of Main Street will be closed beginning at 7:30 AM on Wednesday, June 3.
• The roadway is expected to remain closed through the work period and reopen sometime Thursday afternoon, June 4, weather permitting.

Pavement Striping
• Final pavement striping operations remain scheduled for Friday, June 5, 2026.
Important Reminder
For the protection of the new roadway surface, motorists and pedestrians should not move, drive around, or bypass barricades at any time. The treated surface requires approximately 24 hours of curing time after application. Driving on the roadway before it has fully cured can damage the new surface and may result in additional delays or repairs.

Please follow all posted detour routes, use caution in the work zone, and allow additional travel time while construction activities are underway.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as these roadway improvements are completed.

The Dillsboro Munch-a-Lunch Program is returning for the summer season. This program provides free lunches to families Monday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The program will be held at the Dillsboro Community Park Soccer Pavilion and will run throughout the summer, beginning June 1 and continuing through July 31.

We are grateful to the volunteers, sponsors, and community partners who make this valuable program possible and look forward to serving local families again this year.

ROAD CLOSURE UPDATE – MAIN STREET

Due to recent wet weather and unfavorable conditions, the previously scheduled roadway work on Main Street was postponed.

The updated schedule is as follows:
East Half of Main Street Closure
• The east half of Main Street is now scheduled to be closed on Friday, May 29, 2026.
• Work is expected to begin at approximately 8:00 AM and continue throughout the day.

West Half of Main Street Closure
• The west half of Main Street is currently scheduled to be completed on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

Pavement Striping
• Final striping operations are currently scheduled for Friday, June 5, 2026.

Please continue to use caution in the area, follow all posted detour signage, and allow additional travel time during roadway operations.

Auction Reminder – 2014 Tahoe 4x4

Just a reminder that the online auction for the Town of Dillsboro’s 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe 4x4 will close this coming Monday, May 18, 2026 at 3:00 PM. The vehicle is currently parked at Town Hall for inspection.

If you are interested, be sure to get your bids in before the deadline. Please note that with rain in the forecast next week, there is a possibility of delays to the planned road work on Main Street (see post from yesterday, 5/13/2026). We will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as more information becomes available.

🚧 ROAD CLOSURE NOTICE 🚧

Please be advised that sections of Main Street will be closed next week for roadway work.

📍 Phase 1 Closure
• Main Street will be closed from Sunset Drive to Rose Street beginning Monday, May 18 at 8:00 AM.
• The roadway is expected to reopen by approximately 4:00 PM on Tuesday, May 19.
• Detour routes will utilize Oak Street, Central Avenue, and Wood Street.

📍 Phase 2 Closure
• Main Street will then be closed from Rose Street to Rullman Drive beginning Wednesday, May 20 at 8:00 AM.
• The roadway is expected to reopen by approximately 4:00 PM on Thursday, May 21.
• Front Street will be used as the detour route.

Please use caution in the area, follow posted detour signs, and allow additional travel time. We appreciate your patience and cooperation during this work.

⚠️ Road Closure Notice – Tomorrow Morning ⚠️

North Street and Front Street will be closed tomorrow morning shortly after 8:00 AM to allow for street sweeping and vendor setup activities ahead of the Dillsboro Homecoming Festival. The road will remained closed until Sunday morning, May 17th.

Please remove any vehicles parked along the streets highlighted in red below before the closure begins to help crews complete the work safely and efficiently.
