This is from all of the area medical facilities. Please take this to heart.

Today, we join with our healthcare colleagues at HSHS Illinois, SIU Medicine and Springfield Clinic for an important message. We see how hard our frontline care providers and support staff are working to care for patients as COVID-19 spreads rapidly in our community. Please show your support for them by taking this message to heart.

This is going to be a tough week for first responders.

This week we will respond to car wrecks filled with bodies and Christmas gifts, we will respond to cardiac arrests during family dinners, we will respond to suicides for the poor people where this isn't the happiest time of year. We will respond to drug overdoses, murders and sexual assaults.

. .....and when our shift is over we'll return to our families, act like none of it happened and try to enjoy the holiday season. Let's stick together this week everyone and be safe.

Department has had a busy day today and we should be proud of each and everyone of them. Started the morning off assisting Midland FPD with a rural structure fire along with a few other department. Once back they began collecting all the donations around Spfld, Chatham with trucks, trailers and a UHaul trailer. It was unbelievable the amount of items that were donated for this family in need here in Divy. Then more and more deliveries at the station. Around 330 the group started the delivery to the family and they were overwhelmed by the generosity of the public. Then tonight at 6 Santa rode in on our engine and delivered numerous presents and the group again made numerous trip inside the apartment to deliver more items. The smile on the young girl face made us all feel great! Mom was overwhelmed again! Again thank you to the generosity of the public!! Stay tune for a video of the event soon.

The generosity that everyone has shown to this little family is beyond incredible!
The needs have been overwhelmingly met.
All the duplicate items will be given locally to families in need.
Thank you to those that have given so much!

*** Cold Weather Car Seat Safety Reminder***

As a general rule for young children, winter coats should not be worn in their car seat because they can leave the harness system too loose to be effective in a crash. Even though the straps may appear to be secure around the child, that extra space created by the winter coat can allow your baby to slip out and become a projectile in the event of a crash.

Want a safe and easy alternative to using a winter coat in a car seat? Strap the child in and use a blanket to wrap them up to keep warm.

For more info on how to keep your baby safe while traveling in the winter, check this article out: https://www.consumerreports.org/car-seats/the-dangers-of-winter-coats-and-car-seats/

As always, if there are any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

Annual Hydrant Flow testing will be conducted this Saturday and Sunday starting after 0730 and completed by 1600 each day.
Saturday will be Comanche Village, RT 104 area and Glenarm area.
Sunday will be the Village of Divernon.
This will stir the lines up some and should settle down a few hours after we leave the area. You may see some stain looking water until the system clears. Refrain from doing laundry on the day we are in your area. Run some water and flush toilets until clear.

The severe risk increased with nearly the entire southern half under a level 3 risk.

Hazards:
Tornadoes(possibly strong)
Damaging winds(possibly upwards of 75MPH)
Large hail(Possibly up to golf balls) Flooding(localized rain totals up to 5โ€)

Timing: After 2PM we expect the first storms to begin along I-72 where ALL modes including tornadoes are possible. These will lift northeast into I-74 bringing heavy rain and a hail threat.

After 5-7PM, storms in Missouri will push east into the southern half of Illinois bringing possiblya substantial wind threat and embedded tornadoes.

These storms will continue deep into the night with far southern Illinois at risk around midnight.

-Have a plan in place and be prepared for a possible warning.

-Donโ€™t travel after dark in areas that recieve heavy rain. Flooding is hard to see after dark.

-Have weather radios and cell phones charged and ready to receive warnings.

Rt 104 by Truck stop is open both ways!

10/11/2021

Currently RT 104 just west of Truck stop by old panhandle plant is shut down. Power pole with a transfer is hanging over the road with lines blocking traffic both ways. PLEASE AVOID THE AREA!

10/11/2021

A tornado watch is expected within a couple hours for central Illinois.

Clouds are trying to break up in Missouri which could give enough instability to increase the tornado threat today.

Have a way to receive warnings and be prepared to seek shelter.

Residents are encouraged to bring American flags to greet the motorcade at 4:30 at the following overpasses: Divernon, Chatham (by the Lake Springfield Marina), 11th Street overpass (behind Walmart on 6th street), Riverton and Mechanicsburg.
