๐Ÿš‘ 50 YEARS OF EMS SERVICE TO THE DIXON COMMUNITY โ€” 1976โ€“2026 ๐Ÿš‘

This September marks 50 years since the first โ€œDixon Ambulanceโ€ call was answered in September 1976.

Dixon Ambulance District invites all former and current Paramedics, EMTs, employees, volunteers, board members, and friends of Dixon Ambulance to join us during Cow Days as we recognize five decades of people who have answered the call and served the Dixon community.

๐Ÿ“ Dixon Rural Fire Protection District - Station #1 Training Room

Come reconnect with former coworkers, meet some of the EMTs and Paramedics who helped build the service in its earliest days, visit with todayโ€™s staff, and look back at how ambulance service in Dixon has grown from its beginnings in 1976 to the Dixon Ambulance District of today.

While the Dixon Ambulance District was formally established in 1987, our history began more than a decade earlier with those first crews who stepped forward to provide ambulance service to this community.

We will also take time for a long-overdue Line of Duty Death tribute, honoring a member of our EMS family whose service and sacrifice deserve to be remembered.

Most importantly, this is an opportunity to recognize the people behind these 50 years of service. If you were ever part of Dixon Ambulance, we want you there. Whether you served in the 1970s, joined us last month, or somewhere in between, you are part of this history.

Please help us reach those who came before us by sharing this post and tagging former Dixon Ambulance personnel.

Five decades. Generations of Paramedics and EMTs. One community.

Dixon Ambulance โ€” Serving Our Community Since 1976.

๐Ÿ’™ No, we didnโ€™t get too close to a Smurf.

If youโ€™ve seen a blue ambulance around town, hereโ€™s the story.

Dixon Ambulance District recently acquired a 2015 Chevrolet Express Wheeled Coach ambulance that previously served with the U.S. Air Force. While it isnโ€™t brand new, it is new to us.

The unit has just 23,000 miles and 1,300 engine hours. It is exceptionally well preserved, virtually untouched, and the cab still has that new-vehicle smell.

With new ambulances now costing between $220,000 and $420,000, this purchase saved the District well over $200,000 compared to purchasing a new unit.

Over the coming weeks, we'll outfit the ambulance with radios, medical equipment, graphics, and other equipment before placing it into service.

We're buying depreciation instead of paying for it. It's proof that buying smart doesn't always mean buying new.

Our responsibility is to provide safe, reliable emergency medical care while ensuring every taxpayer dollar is spent wisely. We believe this ambulance is a perfect example of that commitment.

And yes... we're keeping it blue. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿš‘

A belated, but certainly not forgotten, EMS Week thank you to Gascosage Electric Cooperative!

They generously provided a gift card that was used to purchase lunch for our crews during EMS Week. Unfortunately, the food disappeared so quickly that we never managed to get a photo before everyone dug in!

While this thank you may be a little late, our appreciation is not. ๐Ÿš‘๐Ÿ’™
