ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER DANGER AND GUSTY WINDS TODAY...

Widespread elevated fire danger is anticipated today across the
region during peak heating.

Sustained winds between 10 to 20 mph with gusts 25 to 35 mph
along with very dry fuels are the main concerns. Isolated gusts in
excess of 35+ mph are also possible.

While minimum RH values this afternoon will range from 28 to 38%
across the region above critical values, the continued very dry
fuels combined with increased winds will make it possible for
wildfires to ignite and spread rapidly.

Outdoor burning is not recommended. Gusty winds will blow around
objects left unsecured.

On Wednesday 3-18-26 at approximately 3:30pm we were toned for a single vehicle accident with 2 people trapped inside the car. With quick response and action, we were able to get the patients extricated. One was transported via ground and one had to be life-flighted. We requested Dixon for a Landing Zone to set down the life flight helicopter. We would like to thank everyone who helped out.

At approximately 10:45 PM on Sunday evening, the Clay Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire on W. Elm Street.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a detached garage fully involved. The nearby residence had begun to off-gas, with exterior siding starting to melt due to the intense heat. Fire crews acted quickly and successfully knocked down the fire, preventing further damage and saving the home.

Firefighters remained on scene for several hours conducting overhaul operations and extinguishing remaining hot spots. Crews worked diligently in frigid temperatures to fully extinguish the blaze and ensure the scene was safe.

The Clay Fire Department would like to extend sincere thanks to the following agencies for their assistance and support:

Last night at 10:57pm we was dispatched to a ceiling fire/possible structure fire Dixon 112 was the first on scene and advised smoke showing, Dixon 101 arrived on scene followed by Clay 501. Members of both departments was able to due a quick knock down and kept everything contained to the upstairs bathroom and a portion of the attic. It was a quick response with minimal damage, great job from everyone that was there and great teamwork. We went run complete at 12:22am. Special thanks to our 911 Dispatch, Clay Fire and Webster County EMS.

Tuesday evening DFD held state training on ventilation. We had an excellent turnout, and everyone learned different techniques for cutting wood, and metal roofs.
