Mr. Rosen's Illustrative Mathematics website provides multiple resources to support families K-8. Check it out!

April is Math Awareness Month and Josh Rosen, the District's K-8 Math Specialist, has created a website to support families with mathematics. His Illustrative Mathematics (IM) site has extensive videos, letters, activities, and other resources to aid families in understanding and participating in their child's mathematics education. The website even breaks IM down by units of study for each grade. Please take a look and enjoy this helpful resource!

Members of the DFHS Thesbian Honor Society facilitated two IMPROV Workshops at the elementary school for the entire 2nd grade. Each class participated in a 45 minute session that included a number of fun improv activities including Mashed Potatoes, Outer Space, Popcorn, Wind, Feathers, Mud and Fire. Springhurst students loved this creative time and so did the teachers. Shout out to HS/MS Vocal Music & Theatre Director Georgia DeFalco and her HS students for helping the Thespian Honor Society bring this community service project to our younger students.

The District Orchestra Concert is tonight at 7:30 in the High School Auditorium featuring string students from grades 4-12. It's a wonderful evening of music, and to see the progression of musical ability is inspiring for younger students. Hope to see you there?!

Check out the 3rd graders amazing "FROGECT" Museum photo album! Each student conducted research on their chosen frog, wrote a detailed written report and also created individual diaramas of their frog in its habitat. The students were able to visit every 3rd grade classroom to see other projects. This was a special culmination of the grade's interdisciplinary study of frogs. Ask a 3rd grader for some fun frog facts!

For Valentine's Day and Kindness Week (2/12-2/16), Springhurst 4th graders decided to spread the love and make donations to the Dobbs Ferry Food Pantry. The donations are also part of a larger learning lesson. Each student brought $1-$5 to school and the kids, working in groups, pooled their money. Using the Stop & Shop flyer for the week, they budgeted what they would buy and did some comparison price shopping with the funds they collected. The students created their shopping lists from suggested items the Food Panty needed, walked to the supermarket and purchased and helped bag their groceries.

This hands-on experience enables the students to apply math skills, but also play a role in positively impacting their community. The children will present the Food Pantry with their donated items at an assembly prior to vacation. Approximately 145 students participated in this wonderful activity. Shout out to 4th grade teachers Giuliano/Gilson, Ferri/Kaminski, LaPorte, Armstrong, Foresti, Turnenchalk, Mair and Ortega! Many thanks to Dobbs Ferry's Stop & Shop Supermarket!
