Yesterday at 12:17pm we were dispatched to a reported woods fire on Money Rd along with Mtn Park, Skull Camp, and NC Forestry. NCFS responded with a dozer to assist with cutting fire lines around the property.

Due to wind and dry conditions the fire jumped the fire line and began spreading further down the property and onto another property on Foley Brindle Ln.

Central Surry units responded with an Engine to perform structural protection for the home on Foley Brindle. Due to the size of the fire and the weather conditions, more units were called to assist to contain the fire from spreading on the Foley Brindle Side.

A huge thank you to Mtn Park, Skull Camp, Pine Ridge, and Dobson for responding to the scene with manpower and apparatus. As well as South Surry, Dobson, Franklin, and CC Camp for standing by at our stations and in district while we contained this fire.

Members remained on scene until approximately 10pm. Please be mindful if you plan to burn anything. The fire will continue to smolder and burn for the next few days, so expect there to still be smoke in the area of Money Rd as well as Foley Brindle and Zephyr area.

🔥Back to back working fires for your Central Surry Volunteers. Last night just before 11:00, we were dispatched to assist Skull Camp on a reported structure fire. Units arrived to find a working outbuilding fire with several exposures.

Shortly after clearing that call, 77 was dispatched to assist Jot-Um- Down on another reported structure fire. Central Surry units arrived to find a working building fire as well as a vehicle fire. Units operated until the early hours of the morning. Thank you to our dedicated members for their hard work and sacrifice! 🔥

Tonight members took time to train and familiarize ourselves with our new Scott SCBA’s. Thanks to the state grant provided by OSFM we were able to purchase new SCBA’s for our new Engine. Thank you to our dedicated members who showed up and helped place these new packs in service!

Please join us in praying for the Surry County Sheriff’s Office and Detention Center family. Today, we suffered the loss of one of our own, Detention Officer Thomas James Smith III.

Please keep his family, friends, fellow shift members, and co-workers in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. We ask for God’s comfort, strength, and peace to surround all those affected by this tragic loss.

Morning history. From Surry County, the Tarheel Firefighter and Carolina Rural Fireman in January 1971 featured this photo of Central Surry Vol Fire Dept's first piece of fire apparatus, along with Fire Chief Bill Crownfield. Was a 197_ Chevy/_____, 750/___. Also, CSVFD was the county's first tax-supported "rural" department.

Read the caption: THIS WAS THE VERY FIRST piece of equipment to be acquired by the newly formed Central Surry Volunteer Fire Department -- the first tax-supported volunteer rural firefighting unit in Surry County. Chief Bill Crownfield, who also is president of the 20-man department, poses beside the $22,500 vehicle.

The 750 [GPM] pumper eventually will be supplemented by a tanker truck. The unit is housed, without charge to the department, at the Town of Dobson Fire Station. This has saved the tax district the cost of erecting a station.

Central Surry does not operate inside Dobson but serves an area within a four-mile radius of the county seat. Fire calls are received by calling the Dobson Fire Station. Property owners in the district are assessed 10 cents per $100 valuation to support the district they approved in a referendum earlier this year.

Today’s Back to the Basics Training Day was a great success. We had a solid day of training, learning, and sharpening the skills that matter most on the fireground.

A huge thank you to everyone who came out, helped instruct, organized, cooked lunch, and made the day possible. We appreciate the support and dedication from all departments and personnel involved.

Training like this keeps us prepared to better serve our community. We’re proud of the turnout and look forward to the next one.
