The deputy who was killed has been identified as Deputy Logan Utt. Utt had served with the Carroll County Sheriff's Office since 2023 and joined after serving in the military.

| As we prepare to celebrate the Class of 2026, we are closely monitoring the weather forecast for all three traditional high school graduation ceremonies. At this time, the current forecast shows a high likelihood of rain impacting both East Surry High School and Surry Central High School graduations, while North Surry High School-Official's ceremony remains uncertain based on current conditions.

We know these ceremonies are incredibly important to our graduates and their families, and we are committed to making the best possible decisions with safety and the overall experience in mind. Any schedule changes or updates will be communicated no later than the following times:
🎓 Surry Central High School – by 4:00 PM on Thursday, May 21, 2026
🎓 North Surry High School – by 6:00 AM on Friday, May 22, 2026
🎓 East Surry High School – by 4:00 PM on Friday, May 22, 2026

Please continue monitoring district and school communication channels for updates. We appreciate your patience and flexibility as we work through the weather forecast and look forward to celebrating our seniors.
